Dump Truck Driver — Heavy Civil Construction

We’re seeking an experienced and dependable Dump Truck Driver to support our heavy civil construction operations throughout the Jacksonville area. In this role, you’ll be responsible for safely and efficiently transporting dirt, sand, gravel, crushed rock, asphalt, and other materials to and from active construction projects.
This is an important role on our team. Our drivers help keep projects moving by getting the right materials where they need to be safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
What You’ll Do
Truck Operations & Material Hauling
- Safely operate dump trucks equipped with hydraulic beds to transport and unload dirt, sand, gravel, crushed rock, asphalt, and other construction materials.
- Verify load types, quantities, and weights before transport.
- Safely load, transport, position, and unload materials at active construction sites and designated facilities.
- Follow project instructions and coordinate deliveries to support daily production needs.
- Maintain accurate records of materials hauled and properly submit load tickets and other required documentation.
Safety & Equipment Care
- Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Maintain the truck in a clean, safe, and professional condition.
- Identify and promptly report maintenance needs, damage, or safety concerns.
- Follow all applicable DOT regulations, traffic laws, company policies, and jobsite safety requirements.
- Safely navigate active construction sites, including uneven terrain and areas with moving equipment and personnel.
Teamwork & Communication
- Communicate effectively with Foremen, Superintendents, project teams, and other drivers regarding material needs and delivery schedules.
- Adapt to changing project priorities, jobsite conditions, and daily assignments.
- Arrive on time and ready to work so project operations can begin as scheduled.
- Represent Petticoat-Schmitt professionally on jobsites, at material suppliers, and while operating company equipment on public roads.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating dump trucks in construction, heavy civil, or a similar environment.
- Acceptable driving record with no major violations.
- Strong understanding of DOT requirements and safe commercial vehicle operation.
- Ability to read and understand load tickets, project instructions, and basic documentation.
- Dependable attendance, punctuality, and communication.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Reliable transportation to and from the assigned reporting location.
- Availability for overtime and occasional Saturday work based on project needs.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to safely enter and exit commercial vehicles repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Ability to sit and operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods.
- Ability to perform required vehicle inspections and related physical tasks.
- Ability to work outdoors and on active construction sites in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely navigate uneven terrain and work around heavy construction equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment while on active jobsites.

Work Schedule
- Monday–Friday, generally 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
- Hours may vary or extend based on project and production needs.
- Overtime may be required.
- Occasional Saturday work as needed; Sundays off.
- Typical workweek is approximately 40–45 hours.
Location
- Based in Jacksonville, FL.
- Work supports active construction projects throughout the Jacksonville area.
- Must be willing and able to travel to project locations generally within approximately a 70-mile radius of Jacksonville.
