Job Story

The Embedded Security Student Assistant will work directly with the research development team to support the design and implementation of security assessments for embedded devices. This role offers hands-on experience with AI-assisted penetration testing, reverse engineering, and standardized security frameworks. The ideal candidate will contribute to finding vulnerabilities and developing proof-of-concept exploits while learning standardized frameworks and low-level functionality of embedded systems.

Job Summary

A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties

  • Assist in designing and developing attacks against commercial off the shelf embedded devices.
  • Support research into state-of-the-art attacks and security frameworks.
  • Help develop AI-assisted security assessments.
  • Support integration of AI models into security assessments.
  • Participate in code reviews and documentation of technical solutions.
  • Assist with monitoring, logging, and optimization of embedded devices.

Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Additional Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated with ability to learn new technologies quickly with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work with and understand complex systems.
  • Basic understanding of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cyber Security, embedded systems, interest in a career in these areas.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn from a variety of specialists in the fields of AI/ML, IoT, and intelligent manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of general-purpose programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 20 hours a week.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference for completion of at least one cybersecurity course and one programming course.
  • Experience building embedded device systems such as a Raspberry Pi or Arduino based solution.
  • Familiarity with the ATT&CK Framework.

Physical Requirements

Ability to remain in a stationary position.

Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers, and calculators.

Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
