JOB SUMMARY The position involves performing a variety of semiskilled and skilled maintenance and construction work for roadways, storm drainage and other public works facilities and systems. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Operates dump and other trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various materials or equipment.
- Operates dump truck with a snowplow and salt/cinder spreader in the removal of ice and snow.
- Operates trucks pulling a float or other equipment.
- Maintains a variety of records relating to materials hauled, work performed, job location, hours worked, etc.
- Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement patching, ditch digging, shoveling, jack hammering, chain sawing, and other physical labor necessary.
- Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tolls by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use.
- Performs routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
- Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as air compressor, brush chipper, chain saw, jackhammer, or mechanized broom.
- Performs all duties in accordance with safety policies and procedures.
- Assists in the training of new or lower-level employees to increase their skills and promote safety in the maintenance and construction of roads and storm drainage facilities.
- Places traffic control devices and perform duties as a flagger for work zone traffic control in compliance with the County’s standards and guidelines.
- Performs some work as part of the County’s Emergency Operations Plan.
- Performs work at assigned location during specified business hours.
- Performs related additional duties as required and assigned.
