Job Title: DrafterJob Description

This Drafter role focuses on transforming existing designs into precise, buildable fabrication and assembly drawings for standard industrial equipment. You will create detailed process drawings, generate and maintain Bills of Materials, and support engineering changes and design improvements. Working closely with engineers, production, and purchasing teams, you will help ensure that all documentation is accurate, manufacturable, and aligned with continuous improvement initiatives. Responsibilities

  • Detail and refine existing designs to create accurate, buildable drawings and documentation.
  • Produce fabrication drawings for standard equipment, ensuring clarity and manufacturability.
  • Create assembly drawings that clearly communicate how components fit and function together.
  • Develop process drawings that support efficient manufacturing and assembly workflows.
  • Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and maintain them with correct part numbers, quantities, and descriptions.
  • Maintain drawing revisions, ensuring all updates are tracked, documented, and communicated effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers to interpret design intent and resolve technical questions.
  • Work with production personnel to confirm that drawings are practical, efficient, and suitable for shop-floor use.
  • Coordinate with purchasing to ensure that specified components and materials are available and appropriate.
  • Assist with engineering changes by updating drawings, BOMs, and related documentation.
  • Support design improvements by incorporating feedback from engineering, production, and field use.
  • Participate in prototype development, including documenting changes and updating drawings as designs evolve.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects by suggesting and implementing drafting and documentation enhancements.
  • Ask questions and gather information on the plant floor to clarify design, fabrication, and assembly requirements.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to accuracy, detail, and high-quality drawing standards.
  • Actively build knowledge of industrial equipment design with the goal of growing into an engineering-focused role.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, including dimensions, tolerances, and drafting standards.
  • Solid knowledge of manufacturing practices and how they influence design and detailing.
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure drawings and BOMs are accurate and complete.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple drawings, revisions, and documentation tasks.
  • Effective communication skills to work closely with engineers, production personnel, and purchasing.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative in solving mechanical and design-related problems.
  • Desire to build a long-term career in engineering and industrial equipment design.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of plumbing systems, process piping, sanitary piping, or industrial equipment is a plus.
  • Experience participating in prototype development or continuous improvement projects is beneficial.
  • Interest in hands-on learning on the plant floor to better understand fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Motivation to grow from a drafting-focused position into a broader engineering role with mentorship and guidance.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role with a typical schedule of either 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours. You will work closely with a small engineering team and regularly interact with two engineers as well as production staff on the plant floor. The environment offers a close-knit, family-oriented atmosphere with the feel of a smaller, "mom and pop" style operation. The role involves a mix of office-based CAD work and time spent on the plant floor asking questions, clarifying requirements, and observing how equipment is built. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
