Job Description

This role supports multiple active custom fabrication projects by producing precise technical drawings, fabrication packages, and production documentation for experiential environments, retail displays, exhibits, and custom-built installations. You will collaborate closely with leadership and fabrication teams to translate design concepts into buildable components using parametric 3D modeling software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor. The position suits a drafter with strong fabrication experience who can quickly integrate into ongoing projects, operate in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision, and clearly communicate engineering and fabrication intent through technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed technical drawings and shop drawings for custom fabrication projects, including experiential environments, retail displays, exhibits, and custom-built installations.
• Develop complete fabrication packages that include assemblies, details, and all required fabrication documentation for production teams.
• Use parametric 3D modeling software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor to create fabrication-ready models and documentation.
• Translate design concepts into buildable components that align with production requirements and fabrication constraints.
• Communicate engineering and fabrication intent clearly through drawings, annotations, and supporting documentation.
• Support accelerated production schedules by quickly interpreting production requirements and updating drawings as needed.
• Collaborate directly with leadership and fabrication teams to clarify requirements, resolve design issues, and ensure feasibility of custom builds.
• Work independently to manage your workload, prioritize tasks, and deliver high-quality documentation within project timelines.
• Support fast-turn fabrication projects with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and consistency in all documentation.
• Provide actual shop drawing samples during the interview process to demonstrate drafting and fabrication documentation capabilities.

Essential Skills

• 1-5+ years of drafting experience, preferably in a fabrication-focused environment.
• Proficiency in at least one parametric 3D modeling software platform such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor.
• Demonstrated ability to create detailed technical drawings and shop drawings suitable for fabrication.
• Proven experience producing complete fabrication packages, including assemblies, details, and fabrication documentation.
• Fabrication industry experience, including exposure to custom fabrication, architectural fabrication, retail displays, experiential environments, exhibit fabrication, or scenic fabrication.
• Experience supporting custom-built projects from concept through production.
• Ability to translate design concepts into buildable components that meet production and engineering requirements.
• Ability to quickly interpret production requirements and reflect them accurately in drawings and documentation.
• Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with leadership, engineering, and fabrication teams.
• Ability to work during Eastern Standard Time (EST) business hours.
• Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple active projects.
• Access to and proficiency with required drafting software on your own workstation.
• Ability and willingness to provide shop drawing examples as part of the selection process.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with exhibit design, scenic fabrication, theater set design, retail displays, architectural fabrication, or experiential design.
• Experience in engineering documentation or product design in a fabrication context.
• Experience in experiential environments and custom fabrication projects that move quickly from concept to production.
• Comfort working in fast-paced, project-based environments with accelerated production schedules.
• Traditional millwork experience combined with broader fabrication exposure is beneficial.
• Ability to adapt to different parametric 3D modeling platforms as needed.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple drawing packages and revisions.
• Self-motivated approach with the ability to remain responsive and accountable in a largely independent role.

Work Environment

This is a project-based role within a fast-paced fabrication environment where projects move quickly from concept to production. The position operates on standard Eastern Standard Time business hours, with an 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM schedule preferred. The work arrangement is flexible and fully remote, offering direct access to decision makers and the opportunity to support high-profile experiential and custom fabrication projects. You will work with parametric 3D modeling and drafting software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Inventor to create fabrication-ready documentation. The role expects you to be self-sufficient, responsive, and comfortable working with minimal daily oversight. You must possess your own workstation and have access to the required drafting software, as you will be expected to use your own equipment to complete project work. The environment offers exposure to unique custom fabrication projects, a fast interview and hiring process, and potential for long-term engagement depending on workload and performance.

This is a Contract position based out of Brooklyn, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $43.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
