Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Downstream (Manufacturing) – Risk Based Inspection Engineer through April 10, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. ( Central Time ).


The Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Engineer position will provide technical support for the development of Fixed Equipment Asset Strategies for Chevron’s Manufacturing Business Units or other assets within DM&C as appropriate. The position will report to DMC Ops FEI/RBI Engineer Team Lead. The position is on the Technical Career Ladder. Candidate should be willing to commit to a minimum 36 month assignment. This position is not responsible for supervising company personnel on a normal basis, but could possibly include supervision on contract personnel for special projects and/or circumstances.


Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:


+ Provide fixed equipment engineering consulting to inspectors, operators, engineers, and management including mechanical design, remaining life assessment, risk based inspection calculation, and repair strategies.

+ Lead development of pressure vessel asset strategies for the facility, including the use of quantitative RBI (API 581 Risk Based Methodology).

+ Provide RBI engineer inputs in accordance with governing procedures.

+ Stewards inputs into RBI software necessary to calculate risk on the asset level and leads cross functional team to determine inspection test and preventative maintenance tasks at the asset level.

+ Participate in the planning and executing work plans for plant turnarounds and capital projects.

+ Work directly with the Inspection team to help develop the inspection scope for fixed equipment, and develop repair and replacement options to address fixed equipment inspection findings. Use good project management principles to assess alternatives and develop cost-effective solution.

+ Act as a technical resource in analysis of data, damage mechanisms, and equipment/piping reliability plans (asset strategies). Assist as needed to analyze data, calculate corrosion rates, asses risk for piping, pressure vessels, and tanks.

+ Work collaboratively with personnel from other Chevron refineries and departments to drive consistency/standardization of Mechanical Integrity processes and procedures.

+ Work collaboratively with Fixed Equipment Integrity, Maintenance and Reliability, Technical, and Operations disciplines to influence alignment and deliver results as OneTeam

+ Work in and around operating facilities, manufacturer and testing sites, with occasional climbing of ladders and entering into equipment.

+ Special Considerations: Chevron has Manufacturing (Refineries) located in: Richmond, CA (greater San Francisco area), El Segundo, CA (greater Los Angeles area), Pasadena, TX (greater Houston area), Salt Lake City, UT, Pascagoula, MS (greater MS Gulf Coast area). Position based in large refinery (Richmond, El Segundo, Pascagoula).Position will require periodic travel (up to 20%).

+ Field knowledge / experience in production facilities preferred.

+ Technical Experience

+ Experience in a complex process facility with preference given to analytical experience on equipment asset management. Working knowledge of damage mechanisms, asset strategies, and turnaround planning/execution. Experience with risk-based inspection API 580/581 methodology and software (Predix).

+ Communication

+ Requires strong oral and written communication skills with the expectation to present information & publish technical reports for stakeholders in & out of the Reliability & Integrity department. Ability to provide recurring updates on projects is expected. Must be able to build strong working relationships with diverse work groups (Maintenance, Operations, Technical).

+ Align & Inspire

+ Demonstrated ability to develop plans with clear, achievable goals and generate buy-in and alignment from key stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and guide a team of contributors to achieve goals. The RBI engineer is expected to prioritize their work according to business priorities and stakeholder engagement. Articulate performance and progress based on the most critical & impactful data to gain commitment for key priorities from leaders and influence strategy.


Preferred Qualifications:


+ Bachelor's of Engineering.

+ API 580 Risk Based Inspection Certification
