Position Overview

Stand-By Personnel is seeking an experienced and mechanically inclined Downhole Tool Assistant for a temp-to-hire opportunity in Moore. This position is responsible for cleaning, inspecting, disassembling, rebuilding, and preparing downhole setting tools for field use.

This is a specialized oilfield support position, and previous downhole tool experience is required. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience tearing down and rebuilding tools, strong mechanical aptitude, forklift experience, and the ability to perform physically demanding work while maintaining accurate documentation.

Candidates must also be comfortable interacting professionally with customer field representatives and traveling to other districts when required.

Required Experience & Skills

• Previous downhole tool experience required
• 1–2 years of tool teardown, cleaning, and rebuilding experience strongly preferred
• Forklift operating experience required
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Experience using basic hand tools
• Ability to inspect tools and identify potential problems
• Basic computer skills
• Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office
• Ability to accurately document tool activity
• Clean driving record required
• Willingness to travel approximately 5–15%
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• Dependable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the shift

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Wash and clean downhole setting tools
• Disassemble tools according to established procedures
• Inspect components for wear, damage, or other concerns
• Rebuild downhole setting tools
• Verify completed tools are properly assembled and ready for use
• Follow applicable work instructions and specifications
• Use hand tools during teardown and assembly
• Operate forklifts to move tools and materials
• Coordinate tool pickups and deliveries
• Maintain organized tool and equipment locations
• Document tool activity using company software
• Maintain accurate records of completed work
• Assist with recycling programs
• Support maintenance activities as assigned
• Communicate professionally with customer field representatives
• Travel to other company districts when required
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
• Follow all company safety procedures
• Perform additional tool and shop responsibilities as assigned

Downhole Tool Teardown & Rebuild

Candidates should have hands-on experience with:

• Downhole setting tools
• Tool disassembly
• Component cleaning
• Parts inspection
• Mechanical teardown
• Tool rebuilding
• Component replacement
• Reassembly
• Final tool inspection
• Preparing tools for field use

Because of the specialized nature of this position, general mechanical experience alone is not sufficient. Previous downhole tool experience is required.

Inspection & Quality Responsibilities

• Inspect tools before and after teardown
• Identify damaged or worn components
• Verify parts are clean before reassembly
• Confirm tools are rebuilt according to applicable procedures
• Identify potential mechanical or quality concerns
• Ensure completed tools are ready for service
• Maintain accurate documentation throughout the process
• Communicate significant tool concerns to appropriate personnel

Forklift & Material Handling

Forklift experience is required.

Responsibilities may include:

• Moving downhole tools
• Loading and unloading equipment
• Staging tools for cleaning or rebuilding
• Organizing completed tools
• Supporting pickups and deliveries
• Moving materials throughout shop and warehouse areas

Computer & Documentation Responsibilities

Candidates should be comfortable using:

• Windows-based computers
• Microsoft Office
• Company tool-tracking software
• Electronic records
• Basic data-entry systems

Responsibilities include documenting tool activity, maintaining accurate records, and tracking completed work.

Customer & Field Support

• Communicate professionally with customer field representatives
• Coordinate tool pickups and deliveries
• Provide accurate information regarding assigned tools when required
• Maintain a professional attitude when representing the company
• Travel to other districts when operational needs require

Preferred Qualifications

• 1–2 years of downhole setting tool teardown and rebuild experience
• Oilfield service experience
• Downhole equipment maintenance experience
• 2–5 years of manufacturing, warehouse, or manual labor experience
• Forklift experience in an industrial environment
• Mechanical repair experience
• Tool inspection experience
• Microsoft Office experience
• Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a major plus
• Previous customer-facing oilfield experience

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and move at least 75 lbs
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
• Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling
• Ability to safely handle heavy downhole tools and components
• Manual dexterity required for tool teardown and rebuilding
• Ability to safely enter and exit forklifts throughout the workday
• Comfortable performing physically demanding mechanical work
• Ability to safely wear all required PPE

Screening & Travel Requirements

Candidates must:

• Pass a required background check
• Pass a required drug screen
• Maintain a clean driving record
• Be willing to travel approximately 5–15%
• Maintain reliable and consistent attendance

Work Environment

• Oilfield service, warehouse, and mechanical shop environment
• Regular work around downhole tools, forklifts, hand tools, cleaning equipment, and industrial materials
• Combination of mechanical teardown, cleaning, inspection, rebuilding, material handling, and documentation
• Physically demanding position requiring frequent tool and component handling
• Stable Monday–Friday schedule, although hours may vary according to workload
• Strong emphasis on safety, mechanical accuracy, documentation, and dependable attendance
