Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced DOT Safety Manager to oversee and continuously improve our transportation safety and compliance programs in the Palmer, Texas area. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requirements, while promoting a strong culture of safety across company operations.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience managing DOT compliance, driver qualification programs, audits, incident investigations, and safety training. Experience supporting autonomous vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems, robotics, or emerging transportation technologies is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and maintain the company's DOT and FMCSA compliance programs.Develop, implement, and monitor transportation safety policies and procedures.Oversee driver qualification files, medical certifications, motor vehicle records, drug and alcohol testing, and required training.Maintain compliance with applicable DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and state regulations.Prepare for and support DOT audits, inspections, regulatory reviews, and corrective actions.Monitor safety performance metrics, including accidents, incidents, inspections, violations, and near misses.Lead accident, incident, and near-miss investigations; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and operational reviews.Develop and deliver safety training for drivers, operators, field personnel, and other employees.Partner with operations, fleet, maintenance, engineering, and human resources teams to address safety and compliance issues.Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation.Manage relationships with third-party compliance providers, testing facilities, insurance representatives, and regulatory agencies.Support the implementation of safety processes related to autonomous vehicles, testing operations, teleoperations, remote assistance, and other emerging mobility technologies.Assist with emergency response planning and business continuity procedures.Promote a proactive, data-driven safety culture throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications

3-5+ years of experience in DOT safety, transportation compliance, fleet safety, or a related field.Strong knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations.Experience managing driver qualification files and DOT compliance documentation.Experience with accident investigation, root-cause analysis, and corrective action programs.Experience supporting DOT audits, inspections, or regulatory inquiries.Strong understanding of drug and alcohol testing requirements.Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety/compliance management systems.Ability to travel locally and occasionally support field operations, inspections, or company sites.Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with autonomous vehicles, driverless systems, robotics, or advanced transportation technologies.Experience in a startup, technology, logistics, trucking, fleet, or mobility environment.Familiarity with autonomous vehicle testing and deployment operations.Knowledge of teleoperations, remote assistance, safety drivers, or vehicle testing protocols.Experience with electronic logging devices, fleet management systems, or safety management software.Certified Director of Safety, Certified Safety Professional, or similar credential.Bachelor's degree in safety, transportation, logistics, business, engineering, or a related field.

Work Environment

This position is based in the Palmer, Texas area and may require regular interaction with fleet, field, warehouse, maintenance, engineering, and operations teams. The role may involve time in office, vehicle, yard, warehouse, and outdoor environments, including occasional evening, weekend, or on-call support.
