Supplier Quality Engineer II

Contract: 18-months
7-4 Hybrid (4 days in office / 1 day remote)
Must be a US Citizen or GC - Because the manager has a goal of converting this candidate to an FTE at the end of their contract these candidates cannot require sponsorship.
Travel: Approximately 30% availabilityfor travel
- Travel is primarily within the US Midwest & east coast and Mexico. This team has a very global supply base with major suppliers in India, China, Europe, and Turkey.
- Travel to each of these countries is also possible.
- The amount of travel is determined by the criticality and number of quality issues with the suppliers in these regions - this is why we offer a range in percentage.
Best vs. Average CandidateAn
average candidate will meet the baseline requirements: an engineering degree, 1 3 years of relevant experience, familiarity with quality tools (8D, 5-Why, fishbone), and solid communication skills.
The
best candidate will bring hands-on experience with multiple manufacturing processes (machining, casting, stamping, forging), demonstrated project management capability, SPC experience, familiarity with engine, axle, or transmission components, and ideally experience managing quality with global suppliers. Knowledge of a foreign language is a bonus.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field (Mechanical, Electrical, Process, or Chemical Engineering preferred)
- 1 3 years of related experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present complex technical topics to suppliers and Client management
- Knowledge of GD&T and MSA; machining process background preferred
- Ability to understand metallurgical requirements and interpret reports
- Strong problem-solving skills and a solution-focused mindset
- Proficiency with quality problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5-Why, and fishbone diagrams
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to understand and address supplier quality needs and expectations
Preferred / Exceptional Candidate Qualifications- Project management experience
- Statistical process control (SPC) experience
- Familiarity with engine, axle, and transmission components
- Experience with manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, injection molding, stamping, and forging
- Experience working with global suppliers and managing quality across different regions and cultures
- Knowledge of a foreign language

Role Overview
The Supplier Quality Engineer II is responsible for managing supplier performance and driving timely resolution of quality issues to ensure uninterrupted supply to production. Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and reporting supplier performance, and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner
- Strategically leading supplier performance improvement projects to increase supplier capability in meeting existing and new customer requirements
- Documenting activities related to investigation, disposition, and resolution of quality complaints
- Conducting supplier audits to confirm product conformity and drive process standardization, waste elimination, and continuous improvement
- Monitoring, communicating, and improving key supplier quality KPIs, including DPPM, Quality Complaints, and On-Time Ship (OTS) compliance
- Leading or supporting the establishment of short- and long-term supplier quality goals
- Championing problem-solving and root cause analysis activities with suppliers and internal customers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances
- Overseeing containment actions at the supplier to mitigate quality impact to Client
- Interfacing with and supporting cross-functional business units on supplier quality topics
Team Purpose
This team manages and resolves supplier quality issues on purchased components, working cross-functionally with plant quality, operations, engineering, series management, and manufacturing engineering across Client's Axle and Transmission assembly lines.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)- Claim closure rate timely resolution of supplier quality issues
- Supplier DPPM (Defective Parts Per Million)
- Quality complaint closure and corrective action implementation
- On-Time Ship (OTS) compliance support
Typical Day in the Role
50% Meetings and Communication Internal team meetings, cross-functional collaboration, and external calls/meetings with suppliers to manage quality issues and corrective actions.
