Have weekdays free on Long Island and love dogs?
Dan’s Pet Care is hiring full-time and part-time Pet Care Specialist employees to walk neighborhood dogs and do drop‑in visits on daytime routes across the North Shore of Nassau County and nearby areas.
In this role, you’ll spend your shifts visiting pets in their homes, taking dogs for walks, giving food, water, and medication as instructed, and sending quick photo updates to their humans. You’ll be backed by our 24-hour staffed, cage‑free facility in Glen Cove, so you’re never on your own if something comes up.
What You’ll Do
- Visit clients’ homes for scheduled dog walks and pet sitting visits
- Walk dogs of all sizes safely on leash in local neighborhoods
- Follow detailed care instructions for each pet (feeding, medication, routines)
- Drive between appointments within our service area
- Use our app on your smartphone to check in and out and send visit notes and photos
- Monitor pets for any signs of stress or illness and report concerns promptly
- Build long‑term, trusting relationships with pet parents
What You Get
- Employment as a company employee, not a contractor, with a stable, supportive team
- Paid training before your first solo shift
- Paid time off and paid sick time (for eligible team members)
- 401(k) plan (for eligible team members)
- Gas stipend and paid travel time between appointments
- Consistent routes and support from a 24-hour staffed team in Glen Cove and Manhasset
- Opportunities to grow into senior and leadership roles over time
- Employee discounts on Dan’s Pet Care services
Pay: 18.00 to 19.50 dollars per hour, depending on experience and route mix, plus a 1.25 dollar gas stipend per visit.
What You Bring
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- Love animals, especially dogs, and are comfortable with both large and small breeds
- Are able to walk and be on your feet for extended periods in all kinds of weather
- Show up on time, every time, and treat this as a real, professional job
- Live within or very close to our North Shore Nassau County service area
- Are willing to drive to multiple nearby towns during your shift
- Have your own insured vehicle that can safely transport dogs on some visits
- Own a smartphone (iPhone or Android) and are comfortable using apps
- Can commit to a consistent schedule (weekday daytime hours are most in demand; some evening or weekend hours are a plus)

Dan's Pet Care is Long Island's largest professional pet care company, serving 5,000+ client families across 80 towns in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Founded in 2009, we've grown from a solo dog walking operation into a team of 90+ W-2 employees delivering dog walking, pet sitting, daycare, and cage-free boarding at Long Island's only 24/7 staffed cage-free facility in Glen Cove.
We've earned 14+ industry awards including PSI's 2021 Pet Sitter of the Year, multiple Best of Long Island honors, and an NYS Senate Empire Award. Apple even featured us as a Small Business Success Story.
What makes us different? We do things the right way. Every team member is a W-2 employee with real benefits — not a 1099 contractor left to figure it out alone. We invest in training, provide the tools and support you need, and build careers, not gigs.
Our core values drive everything we do: Love of Animals. Raise the Bar. Bring Your Best. Peace of Mind. If those resonate with you, you'll fit right in.
Whether you're joining our field team or our boarding facility, you're walking into a company that's been raising the standard for professional pet care on Long Island for over 16 years — and we're still growing.
