Role Overview

The Distribution Power Engineer is responsible for designing and supporting electric utility distribution projects that facilitate new customer connections, service upgrades, system expansions, and infrastructure improvements. This role develops engineering solutions from initial customer requirements through construction-ready design packages while ensuring compliance with utility standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. Working closely with utility clients, developers, contractors, and internal project teams, the Distribution Power Engineer helps deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective distribution systems. Through technical expertise, customer engagement, and effective project coordination, this position contributes to the reliability, resiliency, and growth of electric distribution networks.

How you will make an impact

  • Design new customer service connections, system extensions, relocations, upgrades, and distribution system improvements to support customer and utility needs.
  • Evaluate customer load requirements and determine appropriate equipment sizing, service configurations, distribution facilities, and system upgrades.
  • Conduct field investigations, site assessments, pole inspections, and route evaluations to gather project data and validate engineering design requirements.
  • Prepare construction-ready engineering packages, drawings, material takeoffs, cost estimates, work orders, and supporting project documentation.
  • Coordinate with utility personnel, customers, developers, contractors, permitting agencies, and other stakeholders to support successful project execution and delivery.
  • Apply utility standards, engineering best practices, NESC requirements, and regulatory guidelines while supporting projects through design, construction, and closeout.

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline preferred.
  • Experience in electric utility distribution engineering or distribution design, including support of new business, new service, system expansion, or infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Working knowledge of overhead and underground electric distribution systems and associated utility construction practices.
  • Experience designing residential, commercial, and industrial electric services, including familiarity with transformers, conductors, poles, protective devices, underground facilities, and service equipment.
  • Understanding of utility engineering standards, electrical design principles, National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
