Distillery Processing Operations Supervisor
The Glenmore Distillery in Owensboro, KY has crafted spirits since the late 1800s. Through Prohibition, the distillery was among the select few permitted to operate on a limited basis for medicinal needs. In 2009, the Sazerac Company brought back the Glenmore name and today the site houses one of the nation’s largest, most modern bottling operations. Sazerac’s vision is to be the industry’s most desired place to be—fueled by history, culture, brands, relationships, innovation, technology, and, above all, people.
A night on the floor
At 6:00 PM, you’re leading a crew of 10 through a 12-hour shift on a 4-on/4-off cadence (work half the year). You review the bottling plan, allocate tankage, and decide whether manual batching, semi-automated cells, or continuous inline blending skids will deliver the best outcome. You keep the RO water system and filtration trains humming, stay on top of alcohol and flavor inventories, and monitor the metrics that matter—Juice Loss, WGs/Labor $, and Department OHV.
What you’ll own
- Inbound materials & processing: Oversee bulk alcohol and sweetener procurement and receiving across tankers, railcars, and barges with full adherence to DOT, USCG, DHS TWIC, and Hazmat requirements. Direct manual product batching, automated and semi-automated batching, continuous inline blending, RO water operations, and product/ingredient filtration.
- Safety leadership: Champion plant and regulatory safety on your shift, including spill management/reporting, confined space compliance, Class I, Div I explosion-proof expectations, and proper PPE. Lead safety kickoffs, investigate incidents with root cause analysis, and drive near-miss engagement to achieve zero recordables and LTAs.
- Quality & food safety: Enforce Personal Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Environmental practices. Solve quality issues quickly to avoid loss or mis-bottling. Supervise batching and filtering for spec accuracy.
- Customer service & compliance: Meet or exceed OTIF targets for Bottling and align with internal/government compliance expectations, along with external product quality and food safety standards.
- Financial stewardship: Own and influence departmental performance. Lead or support cost-reduction projects targeting Juice Loss %, 9L/case, WGs/Labor $ per hour, OT% utilization, and Department OHV. Provide input to the annual budget.
- Audit & recordkeeping: Ensure strict adherence to DOT, USCG, DHS TWIC, Hazmat, and TTB guidelines. Conduct internal audits (receipts, proofing, loss reporting, system transactions, equipment calibrations, etc.), support external agency audits, and verify accurate reporting for inventories, calibrations, 122 and 137 records, variance initiations, and daily documentation completed by Processing Clerks and Technicians.
- People & culture: Lead with fairness and respect. Build a team where every voice helps exceed customer expectations. Engage with climate survey actions and uphold the vision of being the industry’s most desired place to be.
- Growth & development: Participate in the PDS development system, contribute meaningful feedback at set intervals, manage growth projects, and create a personal Career Development Plan with your manager. Understand your team’s career goals and help them build the skills to get there.
