    Description

    Education Requirements

    DegreeRequirement
    Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school.Required
    Recent completion of the POST Public Safety Dispatcher Course.Preferred


    Experience

    ExperienceRequirement
    Minimum of 2 years of experience performing complex administrative work including accessing and entering information into computer systems and databases.Required
    Prior experience working as a public safety dispatcher for a law enforcement agency or fire department .Preferred


    Special Conditions

    Special ConditionRequirement
    The incumbent must also possess normal color vision, hearing and reaction times.Required
    Satisfactory completion of a POST-certified, 80-hour Basic Complaint/Dispatcher course within 12 months of the date of hire.Required
    Undergo a thorough background investigation.Required
    Evaluation of oral communication skills.Required
    The completion of a medical examination.Required
    Public Driving Record and possess or ability to obtain within 30 days of appointment, a valid appropriate Class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.Required
    Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, as well as days, graveyard and overtime shifts (hours outside standard Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM work hours).Required
    The completion of 12 months' probation.Required
    Must be able to pass a speed and accuracy typing test at 35 wpmRequired
    Must be able to sit for long periods in a confined area and wear a headset.Required


    Minimum Requirements

    Demonstrated ability handling difficult, sensitive and confidential situations tactfully; accessing and updating various indexes.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Proficient in the use of computers and computer applications, i.e., word processing, computer aided dispatch systems and Internet applications.

    Knowledge of UCR campus locations.
