The Director, Systems Engineering role leads the strategy, architecture, delivery, and operational excellence of the enterprise technology platforms that support CyrusOne’s corporate operations and data center business. Reporting to the Senior Director, IT Infrastructure, this role leads the Systems Engineering organization and is accountable for the reliability, scalability, security, recoverability, and lifecycle management of core infrastructure services.


This role establishes CyrusOne’s engineering standards and leads infrastructure modernization across hybrid cloud, identity, compute, virtualization, storage, backup, databases, and monitoring platforms. This leader partners across IT and the business to deliver secure, highly available, and scalable services while building a culture of technical excellence, automation, continuous improvement, operational ownership, and disciplined execution.


Responsibilities:


+ Own the strategy, roadmap, architecture, engineering, lifecycle, and operational health of CyrusOne’s enterprise infrastructure platforms, including compute, virtualization, hybrid cloud services, storage, backup and recovery, Microsoft identity services, databases, and monitoring solutions.

+ Establish and enforce architecture standards, technology patterns, lifecycle policies, configuration baselines, documentation requirements, and engineering governance across the Systems Engineering portfolio.

+ Lead, develop, and mentor the Systems Engineering manager, engineers, and database administration resources; establish clear ownership, measurable objectives, succession plans, and development opportunities; and foster a high-performing, accountable team culture.

+ Drive infrastructure modernization, automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) initiatives to improve scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.

+ Ensure the availability, performance, security, and recoverability of enterprise infrastructure platforms through effective capacity planning, monitoring, patch management, and disaster recovery practices.

+ Serve as the senior escalation point for complex infrastructure and systems-related issues.

+ Partner with Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, Enterprise Applications, and business stakeholders to align technology capabilities with business needs.

+ Support security, audit, compliance, and risk management initiatives across infrastructure platforms.

+ Manage infrastructure budgets, technology investments, vendor relationships, and strategic sourcing activities.

+ Communicate technology strategy, operational performance, project status, and key risks to senior leadership.


Qualifications:


Minimum Requirements


+ 10+ years of progressive experience supporting enterprise infrastructure environments.

+ 5+ years of leadership experience managing technical engineering teams.

+ Experience leading infrastructure strategy, architecture, and operational support functions within a complex enterprise environment.

+ Experience managing large-scale infrastructure implementations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.

+ Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies, including Windows Server, Active Directory, virtualization platforms, cloud infrastructure, storage, backup and recovery solutions, databases, and monitoring tools.

+ Experience leading automation and Infrastructure-as-Code initiatives.

+ Strong understanding of infrastructure security, business continuity, and disaster recovery principles.

+ Proven ability to develop technical roadmaps and drive architecture decisions.

+ Demonstrated success leading high-performing technical teams.

+ Strong project management, strategic planning, and stakeholder management skills.

+ Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities.


Education / Certifications:


Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience leading enterprise technology and infrastructure functions, required.
