    As a Director, Software Development & Engineering Senior, you will lead a talented organization responsible for critical application platforms supporting data integration, web services, and secure file transfer capabilities. This role offers the opportunity to shape technical strategy, modernize engineering practices, and drive large-scale technology transformation initiatives, including the adoption of AI-powered software development tools. You will partner across business and technology teams to deliver resilient, scalable solutions that improve client and employee experiences while influencing the future of software engineering at Schwab.

    This role will:

    • Lead, mentor, and develop multiple software engineering teams, including employees and contractors, while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Own the technology roadmap and successful delivery of key application platforms supporting data processing, integration, and digital services.
    • Establish and communicate the architectural vision for critical platforms, guiding technical leaders through design and implementation decisions.
    • Drive modernization initiatives that improve operational efficiency, platform resiliency, scalability, and feature delivery.
    • Partner with architects, product owners, and business stakeholders to align technology investments with business objectives.
    • Champion engineering excellence through telemetry, metrics, automation, and continuous improvement practices.
    • Accelerate adoption of AI-powered development capabilities, including GitHub Copilot, AI-assisted code review, testing automation, and SDLC transformation initiatives.
    • Lead geographically distributed teams, including offshore engineering partners, to ensure effective collaboration and consistent delivery standards.
    • Manage organizational resources, budgets, vendor relationships, and strategic technology investments.
    • Identify and mitigate delivery risks while ensuring high-quality outcomes across complex, enterprise-scale initiatives.

    What you have

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • 12+ years of software engineering or application development experience, including progressive leadership responsibilities.
    • 4+ years of people leadership experience with demonstrated success building and developing high-performing engineering teams.
    • 8+ years of hands-on software development experience utilizing object-oriented programming languages, preferably C#/.NET.
    • Strong expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and enterprise application development.
    • 6+ years of financial services experience, preferably within brokerage, trading, digital assets, or securities processing environments.
    • Experience leading large, complex technology programs using Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, or Scaled Agile frameworks.
    • Proven ability to deliver enterprise-scale solutions while managing multiple priorities, stakeholders, and dependencies.
    • Strong communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills across technical and business audiences.
    • Experience driving adoption of AI-assisted development tools and engineering productivity platforms.
    • Experience leading globally distributed engineering organizations, including offshore development teams.
    • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in fast-paced environments and navigate ambiguity while delivering results.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with Agile engineering practices, Behavior Driven Development (BDD), and modern software delivery methodologies.
    • Experience leveraging operational metrics and telemetry to drive continuous improvement and platform reliability.
    • Knowledge of AI/ML-enabled software development tools and automated software delivery practices.
    • Experience building and scaling offshore development partnerships and governance models.
    • Experience managing vendor and contractor relationships.
    • Knowledge of Aerospike, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or other enterprise database technologies.
    • Experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Cloud Foundry environments.
    • Experience integrating enterprise applications with workflow and BPM platforms such as Pega or Appian.
    • Broad understanding of modern software engineering frameworks, architecture patterns, and emerging technology trends.
    • Experience serving as a technical leader, mentor, or coach for engineering teams and leaders.
