Position Overview:

The Director, social media is responsible for establishing and implementing the overall social media strategy, editorial calendar, and promotional plans across the full ecosystem of Washington Mystics social media channels. This position will work collaboratively with the Marketing and Content teams and across the organization to develop social media content that drives growth and engagement. Ideal candidates will possess a deep understanding of how audiences digest and engage with social content and have hands-on experience leading content strategy.

Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain the Mystics social media strategy based on business priorities and long-term planning.
• Maintain awareness of emerging platforms, tools and technology.
• Develop data-capture strategies to improve engagement and reach, staying on top of trends.
• Collaborate with other departments to drive goals for the Mystics (ticketing, retail) and sponsors.
• Manage and track social media budget, expenses and revenue.
• Communicate social strategy to internal departments, manage expectations and implement content across each social media platform.
• Develop opportunities for social monetization.
• Create new opportunities to improve visibility for the Mystics and players.
• Drive the strategy for using social influencers and content creators to generate engagement and reach new audiences for the Mystics organic social channels.
• Curate, capture and publish live coverage of all Mystics games (home and away), practices, and events across the regular season schedule, full practice schedule, and season-long event calendar.
• Handle daily community management for all platforms.
• Lead monthly and weekly digital reporting across social channels, working with social team to pull results and analyze data to create strategies and tactics for continual audience engagement and growth.
• Work with basketball operations and players to develop a level of trust to ensure everyone surrounding the team is comfortable with social media presence.
• Work with internal departments to proactively respond to fan concerns/complaints via social media platforms in a timely manner.
• Serve as a resource for players/coaches seeking to become more involved with the Mystics via social media.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, Communications, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in social media role preferred, preferably in the sports or live entertainment industry.
• Knowledgeable about current and emerging social media platforms and trends.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Strong proof-reading skills; outstanding attention to detail.
• Strong visual design eye, with regard to graphics, photography, and produced video content.
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and Content Management Systems (Sprout Social, Asana).
• Experience compiling and analyzing social media KPIs and metrics to impact strategy, sponsor opportunities and business decisions.
• Ability to effectively work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate the ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects.
• Able and willing to travel (road games, events, etc.)
• Knowledgeable about WNBA players, teams and experience in professional sports.
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Pay Range: $95k-110k USD.
