Description
This is a strategically important role advising senior business leaders on a broad range of insurance, regulatory, commercial, and product-related matters within a highly regulated and consumer-focused environment.
- Provide day-to-day legal counsel to the U.S. insurance business on a wide range of strategic and operational matters.
- Advise on insurance regulatory requirements, including state insurance laws, licensing, distribution, product governance, consumer protection, and regulatory developments.
- Support the development, launch, and enhancement of insurance products and related customer offerings.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements and insurance-related documentation.
- Counsel senior executives on legal implications of business initiatives, transactions, and regulatory developments.
- Partner with compliance and risk management teams to identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
- Support regulatory examinations, inquiries, and interactions with insurance regulators.
- Manage external counsel and coordinate legal support across multiple stakeholders and business functions.
Profile
The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to the business, balancing legal risk management with commercial objectives while partnering closely with stakeholders across legal, compliance, risk, regulatory affairs, and business leadership.
- Juris Doctor degree and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
- Significant experience practicing insurance law at a leading law firm, financial institution, insurance company, or comparable organization.
- Deep knowledge of state insurance regulatory frameworks and related legal requirements.
- Experience counseling business leaders on insurance products, distribution arrangements, regulatory matters, and commercial transactions.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to influence stakeholders and provide practical, business-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent judgment, executive presence, and communication skills.
