Description

About Alvarez & Marsal

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm with over 10,000 entrepreneurial, action and results-oriented professionals in over 40 countries. We take a hands-on approach to solving our clients problems and assisting them in reaching their potential. Our culture celebrates independent thinkers and doers who positively impact our clients and shape our industry. The collaborative environment and engaging work-guided by A&M s core values of Integrity, Quality, Objectivity, Fun, Personal Reward, and Inclusive Diversity-are why our people love working at A&M.

The Team

A&M s Energy & Chemicals practice helps companies and investors improve performance, execute transactions, transform operations, and navigate moments when speed and certainty matter. We work across the oil and gas value chain - upstream, midstream, downstream, oilfield services, energy infrastructure, and adjacent industrial businesses - with private equity sponsors, corporate management teams, boards, and lenders.

Our technology work is integrated with the economics and operating realities of the business. We assess not only whether systems function, but also what they cost, which capabilities they enable, how they affect safe and reliable operations, what must be ready on Day 1, and how to translate a recommendation into an executable plan.

A&M Energy is seeking an experienced technical IT consulting leader who can move fluently between the field, the data room, the technology organization, and the executive suite. This person will help oil and gas companies and investors make high-stakes decisions, stabilize critical operations, separate or integrate complex technology environments, and convert technical findings into measurable business outcomes.

The successful candidate combines the judgment of a management consultant with the practical instincts of an operator. They are credible with CIOs, CFOs, operations leaders, deal teams, engineers, and functional owners; comfortable working from incomplete data; and willing to roll up their sleeves to build the model, examine the architecture, lead the workshop, and drive the workplan.

How you will contribute

As a Director or Senior Director, you will lead work at the intersection of oil and gas operations, transactions, finance, and technology. Depending on the engagement, you may own the full project, lead the IT/OT workstream within a broader team, or step into an interim leadership role to help a client deliver through a critical transition.

Representative Engagements:

  • Transaction diligence and value creation: assess technology risks and investment needs for acquisitions, divestitures, and restructurings.
  • Carve-outs, integrations, and standalone readiness: define Day 1 and Day 100 requirements and build separation, integration, and TSA-exit roadmaps.
  • IT cost and portfolio rationalization: baseline applications, infrastructure, and vendor contracts to identify savings and sequence execution.
  • IT/OT and cybersecurity assessment: evaluate enterprise infrastructure and operational technology, including SCADA, DCS, PLCs, and cyber controls.
  • Enterprise systems and process stabilization: diagnose gaps and risk in ERP and business-process transitions, including SAP-enabled processes and master data.
  • Technology operating model and service delivery: redesign roles, governance, and sourcing to build an accountable, scalable technology function.
  • Program leadership and interim management: stand up PMO/IMO governance and drive measurable outcomes under tight timelines.
  • Data, analytics, automation, and AI-enabled delivery: use structured data and responsible generative AI to accelerate diligence and strengthen deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead multiple workstreams or end-to-end engagements for private equity and corporate clients across oil and gas and adjacent energy sectors.
  • Frame ambiguous problems, establish a practical hypothesis and workplan, and align the team on what must be true when the engagement is complete.
  • Plan and conduct executive interviews, workshops, site visits, and management readouts with senior client stakeholders.
  • Assess current-state applications, infrastructure, data, vendors, cybersecurity, and OT dependencies to identify and validate critical gaps.
  • Build or oversee decision-quality analyses and plans, including cost models, savings bridges, disposition matrices, Day 1 and 100-day plans, and TSA schedules.
  • Develop practical recommendations with clear owners, timing, dependencies, and confidence levels, distinguishing facts from assumptions.
  • Produce concise, client-ready deliverables that tell an answer-first, data-backed story.
  • Manage teams day to day, coach junior professionals, and maintain quality in an environment of high standards and ownership.
  • Build trusted client relationships and help expand A&M s technical IT capabilities in Energy & Chemicals.

Required Skillset:

  • Deep experience in oil and gas, energy infrastructure, or a closely related asset-intensive industry, with a practical understanding of how technology supports safe and reliable operations.
  • Demonstrated success in at least two of the following: IT due diligence; M&A integration; carve-out or standalone planning; IT cost reduction; IT/OT/cyber assessment; or interim technology leadership.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise technology domains such as ERP (including SAP), cloud and hosting, cybersecurity, and technology service management.
  • Ability to assess operational technology and its interfaces with enterprise IT, including control environments, connectivity, and cyber risk; direct engineering credentials are a plus but not required.
  • Strong financial and analytical fluency: able to reconcile imperfect data and build transparent models that executives can use to make decisions.
  • Excellent structured problem-solving, writing, and client-facing communication skills, including synthesizing complex findings into a clear executive message.
  • Entrepreneurial and highly accountable, willing to shift between strategy, analysis, and hands-on delivery as the situation requires.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in management consulting, industry technology leadership, corporate transformation, or transaction advisory, with a track record leading client engagements and presenting to senior executives; Director and Senior Director leveling will reflect experience and demonstrated scope.
  • Bachelor s degree in information systems, engineering, computer science, finance, business, or another relevant discipline; MBA or comparable advanced degree is a plus.
  • High proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel. Experience with Power BI, SQL, Python, or AI-enabled workflow automation is a plus.
  • Experience with private equity, transaction environments, restructuring, or interim management is strongly preferred.
  • Relevant certifications - such as PMP, CISSP/CISM, cloud, or SAP credentials - are valued but not required.
  • Comfort with domestic and international travel and with working in field, office, and remote environments as client needs dictate.
