    Xavier University of Louisiana - the nation's only historically Black and Catholic university - seeks a skilled, student-centered professional to serve as Director of its Pre-Law Office. In this pivotal role, the Director will lead Xavier's efforts to expand access to legal education for our talented, mission-driven students, with a direct mandate to increase law school enrollment rates and strengthen Xavier's standing as a premier pipeline institution for the legal profession.

    Through individualized advising, strategic programming, and cultivated partnerships with law schools across the country, the Director will empower students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds to pursue careers in law, public policy, and justice.

    Duties and Job Requirements:

    Student Advising & Application Support

    • Provide individualized advising to undergraduate students at all stages of their pre-law journey, from exploratory freshmen to applicants finalizing submissions.
    • Guide students through all components of the law school application: school selection, résumé development, personal statement and addenda, letters of recommendation strategy, and interview preparation.
    • Advise students on LSAT preparation resources, study timelines, score improvement strategies, and test-optional policies at target institutions; make informed referrals to prep programs as appropriate.
    • Conduct in-depth personal statement workshops and one-on-one editing sessions, helping students craft compelling, authentic narratives that reflect their Xavier experience and sense of purpose.
    • Track application outcomes for all pre-law students and maintain accurate, longitudinal records to inform program strategy and institutional reporting.

    Legal Career & Professional Development

    • Counsel students on legal career pathways with emphasis on careers aligned with Xavier's social justice mission.
    • Help students identify and pursue pre-law enrichment opportunities including internships, law firm exposure programs, mock trial, moot court, fellowships, and the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) pipeline programs.

    Programming, Events & Community

    • Design, coordinate, and execute a robust calendar of pre-law programming such as information sessions, LSAT prep workshops, application boot camps, alumni panels, law school visit days, and career networking events.
    • Collaborate with student organizations, including the Pre-Law Society and BLSA pipeline chapters, to foster a vibrant pre-law community on campus.
    • Coordinate LSAT group prep cohorts and facilitate access to fee waivers, Credential Assembly Service (CAS) fee waivers, and other financial accessibility resources for eligible students.
    • Establish and convene the Pre-Law Advisory Council and alumni network to enhance programming and opportunities for pre-law students.

    Pre-Law Committee & Institutional Leadership

    • Convene and manage the Faculty Pre-Law Advisory Committee, facilitating collaboration on letter of recommendation standards and identification of high-potential students across all majors.
    • · Partner with the Registrar, Financial Aid, Career Services, CURGO, and Institutional Research to support data collection, outcomes tracking, and strategic planning related to law school placement.
    • Prepare annual reports on pre-law student outcomes for the Dean and institutional leadership, including acceptance rates, scholarship data, and school placement benchmarks.

    Law School Partnerships & External Relations

    • Cultivate and maintain active relationships with admissions officers at law schools nationally, with particular attention to ABA-accredited schools actively recruiting HBCU graduates.
    • Invite law school representatives to campus for information sessions, tabling events, and individual student meetings; manage a recruitment visit calendar.
    • Develop articulation agreements and pipeline partnerships with law schools to increase acceptance rates, scholarship access, and visibility for Xavier students.
    • Engage Xavier alumni currently enrolled in or who have graduated from law school for mentorship programming, panel events, and regional networking opportunities.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or related field strongly preferred.
    • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience in academic advising, pre-law advising, college counseling, law school admissions, or a closely related field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • A J.D. or experience working in the legal profession is strongly preferred.
    • Experience working directly in law school admissions, as an admissions counselor, recruiter, or related professional at an ABA-accredited institution.
    • Prior experience as a pre-law advisor or pre-professional advisor at a college or university, ideally an HBCU or minority-serving institution.
    • Familiarity with LSAC diversity pipeline programs, ABA diversity initiatives, and scholarship programs targeting underrepresented law students.
    • Established professional network with law school admissions offices, BLSA advisors, and/or legal pipeline organizations.
    • Experience advising students applying to combined degree (B.A./J.D., 3+3) programs or joint degree programs.
    • Knowledge of public interest law fellowships (e.g., Equal Justice Works, Skadden, Echoing Green) and pathways for students pursuing social justice-oriented legal careers.
    • Experience with grant writing, donor relations, or development activities related to student scholarship or programming funding.
