Description
The Director of WIC performs highly responsible supervisory and administrative work directing the Women, Infants, and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program. Work involves ensuring proper implementation and adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and proper administration and accounting of program budgets. Employee is responsible for supervision of professional, technical and clerical staff, including training, assigning and all personnel administration functions; and for directing coordination of WIC program services with other governmental and private human services agencies.
Examples of Duties
Assists in planning, developing, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures for operation of the WIC Program, ensuring adherence to federal, state and local laws, rules, policies and procedures.
Assigns, directs, and supervises a professional, technical and clerical staff, ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
Resolves problems as non-routine situations arise.
Conducts periodic staff meetings.
Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, assigns, schedules, appraises, and disciplines employees as necessary.
Communicates with health care professionals to coordinate referrals of program clients for needed services; organizes participation in community health fairs.
Administers and oversees program budget, including approving expenditures.
Determines and acquires sites for WIC clinics; assists in lease negotiations.
Oversees and participates in preparation of a variety of program records and reports as required by local, state, and federal oversight agencies, ensuring timely submission, and completeness and accuracy of data.
Prepares a variety of correspondence, as necessary.
Assists in acquisition and management of office space for WIC clinics.
Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports as required by program oversight agencies.
Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in related field and a minimum five years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Possession of a valid drivers license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas drivers license within 90 days of employment.
The position is based in Denton, however, travel to all Denton County WIC clinics will be required.

Family Medical Leave: Denton County employees who have been employed for one year and who have worked 1250 hours in the preceding year may be eligible for up to twelve weeks of FMLA leave.
