Director of University Health and Wellness | University Health and Wellness

Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Director serves in a hybrid clinical and administrative role, overseeing the activities of a dynamic University Health and Wellness Office that provides confidential care to employees of The Rockefeller University.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

(Clinical responsibilities)

• Demonstrates clinical expertise in conducting episodic health assessments of patients with real or potential, acute, and/or chronic health problems, including diagnostic testing and treatment (including prescription);
• Provides referrals to specialty services, as indicated. Promotes continuity of care and health promotion, and administers approved medications and immunizations in accordance with United States Public Health Service standards and The Rockefeller University written orders.
• Responsible for surveillance and health promotion of campus employees, management of workers' compensation and disability cases, maintains current knowledge about OSHA and Workers' Compensation procedures, and communicates with Laboratory Safety and Benefits about injuries and accident prevention.
• Oversees the evaluation, documentation, and reporting of work-related injuries, work-related clearances, and other medical surveillance programs for campus employees in accordance with regulatory agencies and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) requirements, and maintains accurate, complete, and confidential health records for employees.

(Administrative responsibilities)

• Oversees the development, coordination, implementation, and promotion of high-quality occupational health and wellness programs.
• Supervises a team including UHW Nurses/RNs, and an Administrative Assistant, assesses clinical skills of UHW staff through direct observation and review of documentation;
• Provides annual performance reviews for UHW staff, prepares an annual report on UHW activities and programs for Human Resources;
• Monitors and implements policies and procedures for UHW in accordance with NYSDOH and OSHA, and facilitates positive interpersonal relationships with members of The Rockefeller Community.
• Serves as a role model for assertive communication.
• Assesses and manages UHW budget and orders equipment and supplies within the established budget, including the ability to negotiate effectively.
• Oversees campus outreach and direct collaboration with department heads and members of The Rockefeller campus community, including students, investigative researchers, and academic and administrative staff.
• Participates in special projects and provides support as departmental priorities evolve.
• Maintains strict confidentiality and exercises sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
• Additional duties and special projects as assigned. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A master's degree in a Nurse Practitioner program is required.
• Must possess at least five (5) years of relevant experience, including management of a Health Office, Clinic, or similar facility, is required.
• A current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in the State of New York is required.
• Must have very strong interpersonal skills and be highly effective in establishing relationships with key constituents, both within and outside the institution, professionally representing the institution. Excellent discretion, judgment, tact, initiative, organizational skills, and self-motivation required.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills are essential. Ability to anticipate and assess situations accurately and recommend/implement effective courses of action required.
• Expertise in EMR documentation, Microsoft Office Suite applications, and other electronic applications for organizational and project management is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Specialty certification desirable (board certification, ex: ANCC).
• Certification in Occupational Health Nursing preferred.
