Position Summary

The Director of TRIO Student Support Services oversees a Student Support Services program serving 310 participants across two grants (Classic & STEM) in coordination with the U.S. Department of Education grant application guidelines and BBCC policies; implements, coordinates and manages program. The purpose of TRIO Student Support Services is to retain and graduate low-income, first-generation, and/or disabled students. The position reports to the Dean of Student Services and works directly with the BBCC Director of Advising & Retention to advance the college's academic advising mission. The position also collaborates closely with departments across Big Bend Community College to support student success and ensure effective coordination of services.

This is a full-time, exempt, benefit-eligible position. Funding for the position is dependent upon federal grant monies and other appropriate funding.

Essential Job Duties

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

Primary responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:

  • Establishes the program's content in accordance with grant requirements. Supervises and monitors all program activities.
  • Initiates the hiring of all program staff. Supervises staff and conducts annual performance evaluations, sets performance expectations, and develops and implements staff training.
  • Approves the selection of all program participants.
  • Approximately 25-30% of effort will be providing participants academic, career and personal advising, including referral to appropriate persons/departments on campus or in the community.
  • Assists participants with scholarships, financial aid, and college/university applications.
  • Coordinates course content tutorial services in partnership with the Director of Tutoring Services.
  • Lead and oversee initiatives that increase postsecondary degree attainment and improve the clarity, transparency, and seamless transferability of educational pathways.
  • Oversee the integration of experiential learning opportunities, including First-Year Experience programming, work-based learning, service learning, and civic engagement activities that promote student growth and success
  • Ensures compliance with U.S. Dept. of Education, BBCC, and State of Washington requirements.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with participants, student organizations, community agencies, college faculty, and support personnel. Identifies, secures, and leverages resources, such as funding or personnel to supplement the program.
  • Prepares and submits reports (such as the Annual Performance Report) in a timely manner.
  • Prepares budgets and authorizes all program expenditures. Makes budget modifications as required.
  • Monitors and reports on progress towards meeting the goals and objectives of the program.
  • Promotes the TRIO Student Support Services program throughout the college and in the community.
  • Create a system for high-quality data collection and analyze data to conduct internal evaluations (formative and summative) to inform decisions
  • Responsible for the development, preparation, and submission of grant proposals funded by the institution.
  • Represents the college at professional and community organizations; participates in professional conferences and staff development activities; collaborates with campus departments, including New Student Enrollment, to identify, inform, and serve students eligible for TRIO Student Support Services in accordance with federal program requirements; and actively participates in college committees and campus initiatives.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in education, counseling, public administration, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Three years experience in the areas of staff supervision, budget management, program development & evaluation or reporting and compliance with federal regulations
  • Experience in the areas of designing, managing, or implementing Student Support Services or similar Projects
  • Documented experience, either personal or professional, supporting students from historically underrepresented, multicultural, low-income, disabled, and/or first-generation college backgrounds to overcome barriers to their attainment of post-secondary education.
  • Experience delivering advising, mentoring, career and/or support services that promotes increased persistence, improved academic standing, and increased graduation and transfer rates.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Spanish/English language proficiency.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, rules and regulations, including the knowledge of the purpose of TRIO Student Support Services
  • Professional or personal experiences in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting Project Participants
  • Experience providing support to students in a community college setting.
  • Formal training/work experience in implementing strategies to improve students' social, emotional, academic, and career development needs for underserved students.
  • Formal training/work experience in implementing strategies to increase postsecondary education access, affordability, completion, and post-enrollment success
