    Job Summary

The Director of Technology is a player-coach who provides strong thought leadership and strategic, hands-on direction for CyManIIs infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud services, endpoints, IT projects, and emerging technologies. The Director anticipates evolving technology needs, shapes organizational strategy, and translates complex technical, security, and partner requirements into effective, forward-looking solutions, frequently designing, configuring, and deploying those solutions personally. As technology evolves, the Director weighs the costs and benefits of maintaining current systems against adopting new capabilities that elevate CyManII. The Director of Technology champions flexible, collaborative, and iterative work practices through secure, reliable, and adaptable technology services. As CyManIIs principal technology advisor and practitioner, the Director establishes a clear technical vision supporting CyManII initiatives while leading and directly performing architecture, implementation, systems, network, and cloud administration, endpoint management, troubleshooting, security operations, and incident response. The Director is expected to spend significant time hands-on-keyboard, administering servers, network devices, firewalls, and cloud environments alongside the team. This includes ongoing operations and maintenance of Linux and Microsoft Azure environments, working in GitHub, and evaluating, adapting, and deploying open-source tools to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions. The Director provides strategic and technical leadership to staff, vendors, and research teams, leading by example and working side by side with technical staff on day-to-day operations, and helps shape the technical direction of initiatives involving the U.S. Department of Energy, national laboratories, academic institutions, manufacturers, industry partners, and other state and federal agencies. Success requires substantial, current hands-on technical expertise across a broad range of IT disciplines, combined with a willingness to roll up ones sleeves and resolve issues directly, sound judgment in weighing cost, benefit, and risk, and the ability to influence stakeholders, challenge conventional approaches, identify emerging opportunities and risks, and build confidence in CyManIIs technical capabilities and innovations.
