Director of Technology

This is a 6-month contract position for a Director of Technology based in Baltimore, Maryland, working on-site. You will oversee Information Technology and Health Information Technology operations for a four-office health center organization, reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer. In this working leadership role, you will manage the IT and HIT team, ensure technology systems remain reliable and secure, coordinate infrastructure improvements and electronic health record enhancements, and serve as Corporate Security Officer responsible for HIPAA safeguards and incident response. You will work across clinical, operational, finance, and quality functions to prioritize technology needs, communicate progress, and resolve issues, while representing the organization in external settings and managing sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Lead IT and HIT operations, technology strategy, infrastructure upgrades, and service desk support
• Oversee electronic health record systems, clinical applications, implementations, upgrades, testing, training, and go-live support
• Ensure HIPAA compliance, security controls, incident response protocols, and disaster recovery and business continuity measures
• Manage IT budgets, vendor relationships, team performance, and cross-functional technology initiatives
• Facilitate cross-functional work groups, resolve conflict, and communicate technical issues clearly to executive and clinical audiences

Qualifications

• Required

• 8 or more years of progressively responsible experience as a Senior IT Leader

• Experience and working knowledge of both Information Technology and Health Information Technology, with understanding of how technology systems support clinical, operational, and business functions within a healthcare environment

• Substantial experience on the provider side of the healthcare industry

• Practical knowledge of network and device support, information security, backups, IT service management, and business application support; ability to work effectively with specialized vendors

• Proven ability to manage competing priorities, vendors, budgets, timelines, staff performance, and cross-functional change

• Strong communication skills and ability to translate technical issues into clear operational decisions for executive and clinical audiences

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Management, or related field

• Clinical and EHR experience

• Preferred

• Experience with NextGen EHR and multi-site outpatient care, community health centers, or Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)

• Relevant professional certification in project management, information security, IT service management, or healthcare informatics

• Experience developing analytics capabilities, interfaces, reporting infrastructure, and operational dashboards
