Duties

General Description:

The Director will be responsible for the following:

Strategic Leadership

• Establish a clear and compelling direction for District technology and innovation efforts to support student success.
• Lead the planning, development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the District Technology Plan.
• Design and implement revisions to the plan that align with district priorities, instructional goals, and state and federal requirements.
• Assess district technology needs and identify opportunities to improve systems, services, efficiency, and user experience.
• Serve as a thought partner to district and building leaders on the effective use of technology to support teaching, learning, communication, and organizational effectiveness.
• Guide the District in balancing innovation with reliability, sustainability, security, and fiscal responsibility.
• Provide leadership, supervision, and evaluation of Technology Services staff, including clear direction, accountability, and professional growth.
• Prioritize the technology staff''s work and oversee project management for department initiatives.
• Establish clear expectations, workflows, and service standards to support district priorities.

Instructional Technology and Innovation Leadership

• Provide leadership to ensure current trends, best practices, and innovative uses of technology are thoughtfully embedded into instruction throughout the district.
• Promote the effective application of technology in classrooms to support diverse learners and maximize student engagement and achievement.
• Collaborate with curriculum leaders, principals, instructional staff, and technology personnel to support the selection, implementation, and evaluation of instructional technology tools and digital resources.
• Support district innovation efforts by researching emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence tools, evaluating potential instructional applications, and recommending tools and practices aligned to district priorities.
• Evaluate, maintain, and support the District''s 1:1 device program and related systems.
• Participate regularly as a contributing member of the district and, as appropriate, build leadership structures.
• Maintain active participation in professional organizations, consortia, seminars, and conferences related to educational technology and innovation.

Professional Learning and User Support

• Provide leadership and professional learning opportunities to support effective technology use by teachers, administrators, and support staff.
• Collaborate with district and building leaders to ensure technology-related professional development is practical, relevant, and aligned with district expectations.
• Promote adoption of district technologies through training, coaching, communication, and support resources.
• Develop procedures, operating guides, and other documentation necessary for the efficient and effective use of district technology systems and tools.
• Lead staff and student education around responsible AI use, academic integrity, and the ethical considerations of AI in educational settings.
• Support a service-oriented culture within the Technology Services Department that prioritizes responsiveness, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Systems, Infrastructure, and Technical Operations

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Technology Services Department.
• Ensure the smooth operation of district technology services, including network infrastructure, software applications, end-user devices, and student and staff technology support.
• Oversee the planning, implementation, maintenance, and lifecycle management of district technology systems, including infrastructure, physical security systems, applications, devices, phones, and related services.
• Collaborate with internal staff and external service providers to ensure reliable and secure technology operations.
• Monitor the performance, availability, and effectiveness of district technology systems and services.
• Oversee technology support systems and processes to ensure effective service delivery across the district.
• Develop and maintain recovery and continuity plans to ensure technology systems continue to operate in the event of an emergency or disruption.
• Ensure that district technology systems are scalable, dependable, and aligned to instructional and operational needs.

Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, and Governance

• Serve as the District''s Chief Data Privacy Officer, responsible for overseeing and coordinating efforts related to the protection of student and staff data in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including FERPA, SOPPA, and COPPA.
• Ensure that a comprehensive data governance framework is in place, including policies and procedures for data collection, access, storage, and sharing.
• Lead the development and implementation of data privacy and cybersecurity policies, protocols, procedures, and training across the district.
• Collaborate with legal counsel, district leaders, and technology staff to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards related to information privacy and cybersecurity.
• Monitor and respond to data breaches, security incidents, and other technology-related risks in accordance with district protocols and legal requirements.
• Oversee district cybersecurity practices, security protocols, and recovery planning.
• Lead the development and implementation of district policies and guidelines for the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence, evaluating AI-powered tools and platforms for compliance with district data privacy standards, vendor data use agreements, and applicable law prior to adoption.
• Monitor emerging developments in AI regulation and policy at the state and federal levels and advise district leadership on implications for district practice.

Data Systems and Information Management

• Oversee major district technology platforms and information systems that support teaching, learning, communication, and district operations.
• Support effective system integration, data management, user access, and overall system quality.
• Collaborate with staff responsible for student, staff, and operational data systems to ensure accuracy, reliability, and effective use of data.
• Lead the development and maintenance of processes that improve data access, reporting, and organizational efficiency.

Budgeting, Purchasing, and Resource Management

• Develop and maintain a technology resource plan and budget process.
• Oversee technology-related purchases and support long-term planning for replacement cycles and future needs.
• Develop and maintain procurement processes that clearly define requirements, support evaluation, and promote effective purchasing decisions.
• Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with vendors and partners to ensure quality products and services.
• Develop alternative funding sources and monitor grant opportunities, including E-Rate and other available funding streams, to support district technology purchases, services, and staff development.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities to improve and streamline technology-related systems, processes, and practices.
• Communicate clearly with staff, students, families, district leaders, and the Board regarding technology initiatives, priorities, systems, and recommendations.
• Write reports, formulate action plans, and present information related to technology systems and innovation efforts.
• Lead informational meetings for parents, students, and staff members, as appropriate.
• Serve as a primary representative of the Technology Services Department at leadership meetings and other assigned committees or district meetings.
• Under the direction of district leadership, interface with Board members to support district initiatives and provide expertise and recommendations.

Other Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of school district requirements and Board policies.
• Knowledge of K-12 technology systems, digital learning environments, device management, and instructional technology best practices.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and district policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to technology, privacy, and job functions.
• Experience with project planning, implementation, and continuous improvement.
• Proficiency in system administration, configuration, troubleshooting, and support of enterprise-level systems.
• Familiarity with network infrastructure and its interaction with enterprise systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and resolve complex technical and organizational issues.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in documentation and reporting.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor''s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Illinois Professional Educator License
• Significant leadership experience managing departments, programs, or major projects related to technology.
• Demonstrated experience in an educational setting and/or a closely related professional environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology, digital systems, data privacy, and organizational technology leadership.
• Experience leading major technology initiatives in a K-8 or K-12 school district environment, or comparable setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• CETL or other relevant technology leadership certification.
• Master''s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Illinois Professional Educator License with Administrative Endorsement
• Technology Specialist or Library Information Specialist Endorsement.
• Industry-recognized certifications in technology, cybersecurity, project management, systems administration, or related areas.
• Experience with 1:1 device environments, student information systems, cybersecurity planning, educational technology implementation, and leading digital transformation or innovation initiatives in a public school district or similarly complex, forward-thinking organization.

Salary/Benefits

Contract Terms:

Salary: $128,00 annually or higher, commensurate with equivalent work experience, plus an excellent benefits package including:

• Board-paid TRS/THIS contributions
• Board-paid family health insurance
• 15 sick days
• 3 personal days
• 5 bereavement days
• 25 vacation days
• Additional administrative benefits

Work Year: 12 months (July 1 - June 30)
