A 204-bed acute care hospital in Palm Beach County is seeking a Director of Surgical Services to lead a high-volume perioperative program. The facility is a Primary Stroke Center with a Level II NICU, a full-service Children’s Hospital, and a rapidly growing surgical service line supported by nine operating rooms, including a hybrid OR and advanced robotic surgery capabilities.
Position Overview
This leadership role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and oversees all surgical services operations across multiple specialties, including orthopedics, bariatrics, neurosurgery, gynecology, and pediatrics. The department includes approximately 84 full-time equivalents with direct leadership over the OR Manager, PACU Lead, Pre-Op Lead, and SPD Supervisor.
The Director is responsible for strategic and operational performance, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care while supporting continued program growth and service line expansion.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead all surgical services operations across the perioperative continuum
• Oversee staffing, scheduling, and workforce planning for a 9-OR surgical department
• Manage patient throughput, volume forecasting, and surgical case flow optimization
• Direct budgeting, financial performance, and cost containment initiatives
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and quality benchmarks
• Drive implementation of evidence-based clinical practices and reduce variation in care delivery
• Partner with physicians and hospital leadership to develop and expand surgical service lines
• Oversee supply chain and equipment utilization to support operational efficiency
• Lead recruitment, retention, and professional development of surgical services staff and leaders
• Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required
• Additional bachelor’s degree or approved education plan required
• Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
• Minimum of 3+ years of experience as a Director of Surgical Services in an acute care hospital required
• Strong background leading high-volume perioperative operations required
