General Definition of Work

The Director of Student Planning & Outreach, under minimal supervision, performs senior‑level work with considerable decision-making leading the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of data-driven systems that support student assignment, enrollment, and planning strategies. Position leverages data analytics, automation, and digital tools to improve operational efficiency, inform decision-making, and enhance transparency across student planning processes. Position oversees enrollment projections, school boundaries, continuation patterns, and school choice processes, while building scalable systems and workflows to support district-wide planning initiatives. Employee performs advanced work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Planning & Outreach.

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Lead, manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned programs/staff
  • Investigate, analyze, and formulate methods for handling special projects/reports
  • Apply project management procedures and best practices to department initiatives
  • Continuously assess, design, and enhance data systems, tools, and workflows to improve efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in student planning processes
  • Prepare recommendations related to student assignment boundaries and continuation patterns
  • Develop and execute marketing and enrollment strategies (both short- and long-term) that are aligned with the goals and objectives of the district
  • Promote internal and external communication to improve transparency, access, and enrollment; develop enrollment projection and recruitment strategies
  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including families and community partners
  • In collaboration with Communications, develop marketing collateral
  • Utilize data analytics to track trends and inform decision-making
  • Conduct market research and demographic analysis
  • Monitor and participate in departmental budget development
  • Coordinate planning and outreach work across departments
  • Design, develop, and optimize data systems, dashboards, and tools to support student planning and enrollment processes
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual workflows and improve efficiency through technology solutions
  • Lead the integration and use of data platforms (e.g., GIS mapping tools, dashboards, data visualization tools)
  • Collaborate to implement scalable technology solutions
  • Translate complex data into actionable insights to inform decisions and recommendations
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accessibility across systems
  • Facilitate staff meetings and attend other related meetings as needed/required
  • Participate in professional development workshops and leadership training
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations
  • Perform related work as assigned or required
