POSITION OVERVIEW
As a
Director of Risk Management, your roles and responsibilities will include:
- Lead and oversee hospital risk management programs, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission standards and applicable CMS, DHS, licensing, and accreditation regulations.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate organizational and patient safety risks.
- Apply Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and other quality improvement tools to investigate incidents and prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with clinical personnel, medical staff, and hospital leadership to address risk management concerns.
- Analyze risk-related data and statistical information to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Promote compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Support initiatives that strengthen patient safety, operational performance, and regulatory readiness.
- Provide leadership and guidance to teams on risk management practices and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Most importantly, you need to be a passionate
Director of Risk Management who enjoys your work and is considered to be one of the best within your organization. The ideal
Director of Risk Management would be someone with deep experience in many (if not all) of the following:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required.
- Master's degree in a related field preferred.
- 2 5 years of risk management experience; acute-care experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a related field preferred.
- Previous Director of Risk Management experience in a hospital setting is highly desirable.
- Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) certification preferred.
- Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards and CMS/DHS regulations.
- Experience with RCA, FMEA, statistical analysis, and quality improvement methodologies.
- Six Sigma/Lean knowledge preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and applicable hospital software.
- Strong leadership, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical personnel, medical staff, hospital leadership, and the public.
