Position Summary: The Director of Risk Management is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of patient safety, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance within the healthcare system. This position ensures the effective operation of risk management programs, including claims management, risk assessments, root cause analysis (RCA), and action plan implementation. The Director will lead the Patient Safety Council, integrate corporate risk management (TERM) initiatives, and collaborate with department leaders and executives to drive system-wide risk reduction strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Risk & Claims Management: Oversee the investigation, analysis, and resolution of claims, ensuring timely and compliant handling.
  • Risk Assessments: Conduct evaluations for new and existing services, identifying potential risks and implementing preventive measures.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA) & FMEA: Lead RCA processes for adverse events, track corrective actions, and apply failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) to proactively reduce risks.
  • Patient Safety Leadership: Chair the Patient Safety Council, aligning initiatives with corporate TERM programs and regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Regulatory & Compliance Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert for accreditation, licensing, and healthcare regulations, ensuring organizational adherence.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Analyze risk trends, prepare reports, and present findings to executive leadership to inform strategic improvements.
  • Education & Collaboration: Train staff on risk management protocols and foster partnerships with clinical teams, medical staff, and external stakeholders.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Leadership & Communication: Strong ability to lead cross-functional teams, communicate complex issues clearly, and influence organizational change.
  • Regulatory Acumen: In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission standards, CMS regulations, and state/federal healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in risk management tools (RCA, FMEA), statistical analysis, and healthcare IT systems. Lean/Six Sigma certification is a plus.
  • Clinical Collaboration: Experience working with clinicians and executives to implement safety initiatives and resolve systemic risks.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • Experience: Two to five years of risk management experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Licensure: Current RN license in Nevada.
