The Director of Regional Controllers provides leadership and oversight for ALKEME’s regional accounting organization and is responsible for ensuring consistent, accurate, and timely financial accounting across the company’s regions and agencies. All Regional Controllers report directly to this position.
This role serves as the primary connection between Corporate Finance and the Regional Controller organization, establishing common accounting practices, strengthening financial controls, improving reporting consistency, and ensuring regional financial activities align with ALKEME’s enterprise accounting standards.
The Director partners closely with Regional Presidents, agency leadership, Corporate Accounting, FP&A, M&A, and other functional leaders to provide financial insight, resolve accounting issues, support integrations, and continuously improve ALKEME’s financial operating model. This position requires a strong accounting foundation combined with the leadership skills necessary to develop a high-performing, scalable regional accounting organization. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Regional Accounting Leadership - Provide direct leadership, management, and oversight to all Regional Controllers across ALKEME.
- Establish clear expectations, priorities, responsibilities, and performance standards for the Regional Controller organization.
- Develop Regional Controllers as strong financial partners to Regional Presidents and agency leadership.
- Create consistency in how accounting responsibilities are performed across regions while addressing unique regional and agency needs.
- Conduct regular Regional Controller meetings to review financial performance, accounting priorities, risks, deadlines, and operational issues.
- Build a collaborative regional accounting team that shares best practices, resources, and solutions across the organization.
- Assess regional accounting capabilities and recommend appropriate staffing, organizational structure, and resource allocation.
Financial Reporting & Close - Oversee regional accounting activities supporting accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Ensure Regional Controllers complete required reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, financial reviews, and supporting documentation in accordance with established deadlines.
- Review regional financial results for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and unusual trends or variances.
- Partner with Corporate Accounting to ensure regional results are properly consolidated into ALKEME’s enterprise financial statements.
- Establish standardized close procedures, calendars, reporting packages, and account reconciliation requirements across regions.
- Identify and resolve accounting issues that could impact the accuracy or timeliness of financial reporting.
Accounting Standards, Controls & Compliance - Ensure regional accounting activities comply with ALKEME accounting policies, internal controls, GAAP, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Partner with Corporate Accounting to develop, implement, and maintain standardized accounting policies and procedures.
- Strengthen internal controls and financial discipline across regional and agency operations.
- Identify accounting and financial control risks and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Support internal and external audit activities, including preparation of documentation and resolution of audit requests or findings.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties, approval authorities, documentation, and financial controls are maintained throughout regional operations.
Regional Financial Partnership - Serve as a senior financial partner to Regional Presidents and other regional leaders.
- Ensure Regional Controllers provide timely, accurate, and actionable financial information to regional and agency leadership.
- Partner with FP&A and regional leadership to analyze financial results, identify trends, investigate variances, and improve financial performance.
- Provide accounting insight related to revenue, commissions, compensation, operating expenses, acquisitions, and other significant financial matters.
- Support leaders in understanding financial results and the accounting implications of business decisions.
- Escalate significant financial, accounting, or control issues to Corporate Finance leadership as appropriate.
M&A & Agency Integration - Partner with M&A, Corporate Accounting, Finance, HR, Operations, and regional leadership to support the financial integration of newly acquired agencies.
- Establish consistent accounting processes and reporting expectations for acquired businesses.
- Coordinate the transition of agency accounting activities into ALKEME’s financial systems, policies, and reporting structure.
- Identify and resolve legacy accounting practices, balance sheet items, reconciliations, and financial reporting issues during integration.
- Support purchase accounting, opening balance sheet activities, working capital matters, and other acquisition-related accounting requirements as needed.
- Help create a scalable regional accounting integration model that supports ALKEME’s continued acquisition strategy.
Process Improvement & Scalability - Identify opportunities to standardize, centralize, automate, or improve regional accounting processes.
- Develop consistent workflows, procedures, reporting standards, and documentation across the Regional Controller organization.
- Partner with Finance and technology teams to improve accounting systems, reporting capabilities, and data integrity.
- Reduce unnecessary manual processes and improve efficiency through technology and process redesign.
- Establish meaningful metrics to evaluate close performance, reconciliation quality, reporting accuracy, and overall accounting effectiveness.
- Support the continued evolution of ALKEME’s finance operating model as the organization grows.
People Leadership & Development - Recruit, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Regional Controllers.
- Establish individual goals and performance expectations aligned with Finance and organizational priorities.
- Conduct regular performance discussions and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
- Identify development opportunities and build succession plans for key regional accounting positions.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and strong business partnership throughout the team.
- Foster a culture focused on accuracy, responsiveness, operational excellence, and exceptional internal service.
Education & Experience Required - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Eight (8)+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including significant experience leading accounting teams.
- Demonstrated experience managing controllers, accounting managers, or other senior accounting professionals.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and internal controls.
- Experience supporting multi-location, multi-entity, or decentralized business operations.
- Demonstrated ability to standardize accounting practices and improve financial processes across multiple business units.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred - CPA or other relevant professional accounting designation.
- Experience within insurance brokerage, financial services, professional services, or another acquisition-oriented industry.
- Experience supporting private equity-backed or high-growth organizations.
- Experience integrating acquired companies into standardized accounting systems and processes.
- Experience with enterprise financial systems, reporting platforms, and accounting automation.
- Prior experience operating within a regional or shared-services accounting model.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, internal controls, and financial operations.
- Strong people leadership skills with the ability to lead experienced accounting professionals across multiple geographic regions.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment - Ability to perform prolonged computer and office-based work and communicate effectively in person and virtually.
- Periodic travel may be required to support regional teams, agency locations, integrations, leadership meetings, and other business needs.
- Work arrangement may include office, hybrid, or flexible work based on business needs.
