Summary:

  • The director of radiology provides administrative, clinical, and operational oversight of radiology services at the designated entity, while also providing health system-level modality leadership based on operational needs. Responsibilities include inpatient and outpatient Radiology services in alignment with the One Penn Radiology vision and the organization\'s mission and goals. This role ensures safe, high‑quality, patient‑centered care through standardized practices, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and collaborative leadership. Responsibilities include oversight of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS, DOH, FDA, HIPAA); workforce management encompassing recruitment, onboarding, credentialing, performance management, leadership development, and staff retention; and operational management including policy and procedure development, staffing and scheduling, daily operations, payroll, vendor management, equipment evaluation and procurement, and staff education. The incumbent is accountable for maintaining efficient, cost‑effective delivery of Radiology services, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and patient monitoring activities across inpatient and outpatient settings. Working in close partnership with Medical Directors and enterprise stakeholders, this leader supports research activities, implements CEQI and performance improvement initiatives, and ensures continuous accreditation readiness. Fiscal responsibilities include capital and operating budget planning and variance management in partnership with the Administrative or Senior Director, with a focus on cost containment and continuous improvement.

QUALITY and SAFETY\tSupports the creation of clinical effectiveness targets, improvement plans and reporting systems to ensure the delivery of high quality, effective and efficient patient care.\tSupport the ongoing Clinical Effectiveness Team approach to delivering care, supported by a strong shared governance team model for each modality.\tAligns work with the Penn Medicine Team Goals and PMPH Entity Goals.\tEstablishes clinical effectiveness targets and strategies annually.\tEnsures compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory standards and requirements, including ACR, TJC, Department of Health, FDA, HIPAA and others.\tPartners with PMPH Administration, Medical Staff, Nursing, and other departments on entity initiatives to improve the quality of care and service provided to our patients.\tOversight responsibility for Radiation and MRI Safety programs for all of PMPH.\tActively participate in CEQI and Patient Safety Committees.\tPersonally, spends time with Radiology Leadership, managers and staff to build partnerships, identify opportunities that will drive performance.

EXPERIENCE\tUnderstands the needs and expectations of patients, referring physicians, and staff across PMPH.\tCommunicates effectively and frequently through multiple channels.\tFosters a High Reliability Organization (HRO) culture through transparent, frequent, and bi-directional communication.\tEnsures Radiology Management and Staff satisfaction through comprehensive and continuous measurement utilizing available resources and strategies for employee engagement.\tContinuously communicates to Radiology leadership the importance of patient and client satisfaction and establishes priorities for improving departmental performance in meeting and exceeding health system expectations.

GROWTH and ACCESS\tWorks with Radiology Leadership in developing programs, services and products to anticipate future business needs, build strength and generate growth. \tConsults with UPHS Leaders in the assessment and evaluation of on-going programs, clinical commitments and businesses.\tCollaborates with PMPH growth strategies to ensure alignment and capacity of radiology services, including capital investments.\tContinually monitors volumes, schedules, wait time for appointments, turnaround times, etc.\tMarkets services via in-person referrer visits, marketing materials, etc.

Credentials:

  • Amer Registry Radiologic Tech (Required)
  • Current Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic technologists (ARRT), RDMS, RMSKS, CNMT or RPA Skills and Abilities

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Other (Required)
  • Graduate of an accredited Imaging Technology Program OR at least ten-years supervisory experience. OR Associates degree OR at least eight-years supervisory experience. OR Bachelors degree in Science, Health Administration, Business Administration (other bachelor's degrees may be considered) OR At least six-years supervisory experience. OR Masters degree in Science, Health Administration, Business Administration (other master's degrees may be considered) OR at least three-years supervisory experience.

Salary Range:

$115,669.63 - $184,388.26/Annually based on 40 hours per week
