About the Role:

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Director of Patient Safety to lead and expand a robust patient safety program focused on the elimination of avoidable harm and the promotion of a culture of safety. The ideal candidate will bring clinical leadership experience from an acute care setting and demonstrate expertise in patient safety, risk, and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advance the culture of safety by driving patient safety initiatives and proactive system redesign.

  • Reduce variation in care delivery by partnering with safety organizations and applying best practices.

  • Perform gap assessments, implement corrective actions, and monitor system improvements.

  • Investigate and analyze patient safety events and potential risks within the facility.

  • Lead credible root cause analyses and failure mode effect analyses.

  • Conduct routine patient safety rounds, empowering staff to report and resolve safety concerns.

  • Coordinate disclosure of serious safety events to patients and families.

  • Facilitate and analyze Culture of Safety Survey results to guide improvement efforts.

  • Encourage harm reporting and provide constructive feedback on incident reports.

  • Deliver patient safety training to new hires and provide ongoing education to staff and leaders.

  • Collaborate with executives and clinical leaders to meet national patient safety goals.

  • Oversee data collection, event benchmarking, and trend analysis for continuous improvement.

  • Work with legal counsel to support the resolution and defense of patient-related claims.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a healthcare-related field (required); Master’s preferred

  • Licensure: Active RN license in the state of Texas or compact nursing state

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in healthcare with a focus in patient safety, risk, or quality

  • Certification:

    • Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS) – required or must be obtained within 12 months

    • Minimum education of BSN – required

    • MSN preferred
