Position Details

SUMMARY:

LakeVille Community Schools is seeking a highly motivated administrative candidate to serve as the Director of Operations. The LakeVille Board of Education will offer the successful candidate an annual salary range of $60,000 to $80,000, commensurate with their education, skill level, and prior experience. POSITION DETAILS:

The Director of Operations serves as a vital member of the District Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Superintendent. This role is responsible for the strategic planning and management of non-instructional operations and promoting proactive maintenance and security of facilities and grounds, food service operations, and oversight of the transportation and custodial departments. Your mission is to provide a safe, clean, and efficient environment that allows our educators to focus on what they do best: teaching students.

THE COMMUNITY:

LakeVille is located in the northeast portion of Genesee County and is home to several parks, recreational areas, beautiful lakes, and scenic rivers. Notable features include Genesee County Parks, which boasts a large lake, campground, and the extensive 21-mile Trails-a hiking and biking path that weaves throughout the township and surrounding areas.

As a rural community, LakeVille is characterized by strong community ties and a spirit of collaboration. Numerous local organizations actively support the school community, fostering close partnerships between families, educators, and residents. THE DISTRICT:

LakeVille Community Schools serves approximately 1025 students in PreK-12th grade. The district has one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school. LakeVille Community Schools also offers early childhood education serving 3 and 4-year-olds. All staff receive free early childhood education for 3 and 4-year-olds as well as free after-school programming. The district has implemented "The Leader in Me" curriculum based on Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The district is a 1:1 technology K-12 with all students having Chromebooks. The school culture and climate match the relaxed rural community feel. The district has an active, engaged, and supportive school board that is eager to provide the right resources to ensure the success of every child.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Facilities and Maintenance

  • Overseeing the long-term health of district assets, including HVAC systems, roofing, and structural integrity.
  • Oversee long-term facility master planning, bond construction projects, and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Ensuring all campuses meet health and safety standards through effective cleaning protocols.
  • Responsible for the upkeep and repair of all the school district's equipment, including school trucks, tractors, mowers, etc.
  • Develop schedules for periodic inspection, preventive maintenance, and servicing of buildings and equipment.
  • Develop effective, efficient systems for all custodial, grounds, and maintenance services, preventive maintenance, and work orders.
  • Supervise all contracted services for grounds, custodial, maintenance, and transportation.
  • Maintain a technical library containing plans, specifications, shop drawings, and manufacturers' literature for all buildings.

Safety and Security

  • Developing and implementing district-wide safety plans, fire drills, and lockdown protocols.
  • Acting as the primary liaison with local law enforcement and emergency services.
  • Serve as the lead for the District's Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Manage security systems, surveillance systems, security cameras and video system and inter-agency coordination with local first responders.
  • Coordinates facility usage in partnership with district staff, athletics and community organizations.

Food Services and Nutrition

  • Compliance: Ensuring the district's meal programs meet USDA and state nutritional guidelines.
  • Provide high-level oversight for Food Services (Nutrition) and Warehouse/Distribution operations, ensuring fiscal responsibility and regulatory compliance.
  • Aides in the preparation for the annual audit; responsible for MDE/USDA reviews.

Other

  • Ensure the safe and timely transport of students by overseeing the district's contract for transportation.
  • Develop and monitor an annual operations budget and follow district financial policies and administrative guidelines.
  • Plan for new technologies and future growth under the general direction of the Superintendent and following Board objectives and policies.
  • Advise the superintendent of road conditions in inclement weather.
  • Prepare and submit all required reports, including those to the Michigan Department of Education, by required deadlines.
  • Supervises assigned staff on a day-to-day basis, including scheduling, work assignments, assessments of performance, and providing training as required.
  • Assist in the planning of new buildings and additions, remodeling, and renovations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) years of successful experience in similar leadership roles.
  • Training and a sound knowledge of district building construction, the maintenance, and operation of buildings and grounds.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of public schools, transportation, an understanding of the specific purposes of school facilities, and school food service.
  • Must have the ability to work well with people, to organize effectively, and to plan wisely, and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Demonstrate skills in technology, including spreadsheets, Microsoft Office 365, Google Suite, student information systems, and others.
  • Demonstrate advanced organizational and communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
  • Must possess a positive work history.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Public Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of successful experience as a Director of Operations for a school district.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Managing bond-funded construction, renovations, and modernizations of school buildings.
  • Experience and knowledge in the maintenance of operating systems such as HVAC, Boilers, Water treatment systems, etc.
  • Level 4 Drinking Water Operator Certification.
