Location: Downey, California
Position: Full-Time | Leadership Position
About the Position
Nutech Fire Alarm & Security is seeking an experienced Director of Operations to lead and oversee our fire alarm, life-safety, and low-voltage operations.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for the overall performance of our operations department, including field personnel, project execution, service operations, scheduling, productivity, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
The Director of Operations will work directly with company ownership and will be expected to take ownership of the day-to-day operational side of the business, allowing ownership to focus more heavily on company growth, strategic relationships, and business development.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and direction for the company’s overall operations.
Oversee fire alarm, low-voltage, service, inspection, and installation operations.
Manage and develop project managers, coordinators, foremen, technicians, installers, and other operational personnel.
Establish priorities and ensure proper allocation of manpower across projects and service work.
Monitor project schedules, labor hours, material costs, productivity, and profitability.
Hold managers and field personnel accountable for performance, quality, schedules, and company standards.
Conduct regular operations and project review meetings.
Identify operational problems and implement solutions before they affect customers or project schedules.
Oversee scheduling and coordination of field personnel.
Ensure projects have the manpower, materials, equipment, information, and support necessary for successful completion.
Review major projects and assist with difficult technical or operational issues.
Maintain strong relationships with general contractors, customers, property managers, inspectors, vendors, and other industry partners.
Assist with resolving escalated customer and project issues.
Coordinate with estimating and sales to ensure projects are properly transitioned from estimating to operations.
Review project performance and identify opportunities to improve gross margins.
Develop and improve company procedures, workflows, accountability systems, and operational standards.
Participate in hiring, training, evaluating, and developing operational personnel.
Help establish departmental goals and performance metrics.
Work directly with ownership on company growth, staffing requirements, equipment needs, and long-term operational planning.
Help build the operational infrastructure necessary to support continued company growth.
Qualifications
Significant experience in the fire alarm, life-safety, electrical, or low-voltage industry.
Previous experience in an Operations Manager, Director of Operations, Senior Project Manager, General Manager, or similar leadership position.
Strong understanding of commercial fire alarm installation, service, testing, inspection, and project execution.
Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and field crews.
Strong understanding of labor management, scheduling, job costing, and project profitability.
Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, contracts, scopes of work, and project schedules.
Familiarity with NFPA 72, California fire alarm requirements, and AHJ processes.
Strong leadership and personnel-management skills.
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to make decisions and take ownership without requiring constant direction.
Strong customer-service and conflict-resolution skills.
Valid California driver’s license and ability to visit jobsites throughout Southern California.
Preferred Qualifications
NICET or other recognized fire alarm/life-safety certifications.
Experience working with major fire alarm manufacturers such as Fire-Lite, Notifier, Silent Knight, Siemens, Simplex (JCI), Bosch, or similar systems.
Experience with security, access control, CCTV, monitoring, and other low-voltage systems.
Experience managing a growing fire alarm or low-voltage contractor.
Experience implementing operational procedures, KPIs, job-costing controls, and employee accountability systems.
The Person We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a leader who can run operations—not simply coordinate them.
The successful candidate should be comfortable making decisions, managing people, solving problems, holding employees accountable, communicating with customers and contractors, and ensuring projects are completed properly and profitably.
This individual should be equally comfortable reviewing project financial performance in the office and walking a jobsite with a foreman to determine why a project is falling behind.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who can take ownership of operations and help build the systems, people, and processes necessary to support the company’s continued growth.
Compensation
Competitive executive-level compensation based on industry experience, leadership background, and technical knowledge.
Compensation may include a base salary plus performance-based incentives tied to company growth and operational performance.
