Job Details

Jobot is partnering with a growing technology company within the autobody repair industry to staff a position as a Director of Operations.

The Director of Operations oversees day-to-day operations across all shops. Working directly with Location Managers, Production Managers, and technicians, this role ensures consistent workflow, quality, safety, documentation, productivity, and employee development. The Director reports operational performance and needs to the C-suite.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

1. Company-Wide Shop Operations:
  • Operational Oversight: Ensure all shops consistently meet company expectations for workflow, productivity, documentation, quality, safety, and service readiness.
  • Shop Support: Maintain regular shop visibility, identify operational barriers, and work with leaders and technicians to resolve staffing, equipment, capacity, and process concerns.
  • Executive Priorities: Translate C-suite priorities into clear shop-level expectations, action plans, and follow-through.

2. Leadership, Coaching, and Technician Development:
  • Leadership Accountability: Coach Location Managers and Production Managers and hold them accountable for shop performance and company standards.
  • Technician Development: Assess technician skill gaps and support hands-on coaching, certifications, training plans, and career development for C-, B-, and A-Level Technicians.
  • Performance Support: Partner with Human Resources to address performance, attendance, conduct, and development concerns promptly and consistently.

3. Process, Quality, and Safety:
  • Standards and Documentation: Ensure consistent use of company SOPs, Shopmonkey documentation, inspection standards, quality-control practices, and workflows across all locations.
  • Operational Improvement: Conduct location audits, address repeat findings, and improve workflow from intake through completion and invoicing readiness.
  • Quality and Safety: Monitor quality, rework, comebacks, safety audits, incidents, equipment readiness, PPE, and corrective actions.
  • Training Compliance: Ensure required safety, technical, operational, and corporate training is completed.

4. Performance and Executive Reporting:
  • Operational Metrics: Monitor key shop measures, including productivity, efficiency, cycle time, capacity, overtime, documentation, quality, safety, training, and staffing stability.
  • Accountability: Review results with Location Managers and Production Managers, identify root causes, and assign clear corrective actions and deadlines.
  • Executive Reporting: Provide the C-suite with concise updates on operational performance, risks, resource needs, and decisions requiring executive support.
  • Resource Stewardship: Support responsible labor, equipment, budget, and operating-cost decisions without sales or business-development responsibility.

5. Customer Service Support:
  • Customer Experience: Ensure shop processes support clear communication, timely completion, and consistent service; assist with significant customer escalations when needed.

Job Requirements/Experience
  • At least 8 years of progressive automotive repair, ADAS, diagnostics, mechanical, glass, collision-adjacent, or closely related shop-operations experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience leading managers and frontline technical teams; multi-location operational leadership experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of shop workflow, technician productivity, quality control, safety, documentation, training, and performance management.
  • Ability to assess technical and operational performance, coach employees at different levels, analyze data, and drive accountability.
  • Excellent judgment, communication, conflict-resolution, organization, and executive-reporting skills.
  • Proficiency with shop-management systems and Microsoft 365; experience with Shopmonkey or a similar platform is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly among company locations, including air travel and overnight stays.
