Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Director of Nursing (DON), RN to lead clinical operations at Georgia War Veterans Home, a skilled nursing facility serving our nation’s Veterans.
This is a key nursing leadership position responsible for overseeing the delivery of safe, high-quality resident care while supporting regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, and the development of a strong nursing team.
The ideal candidate is a proven nursing leader with skilled nursing facility experience, strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for serving Veterans and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for the nursing department at Georgia War Veterans Home.
- Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate, and person-centered nursing care.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop nursing staff, including RNs, LVNs/LPNs, CNAs, and other clinical team members.
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, assignments, and nursing department productivity.
- Monitor clinical outcomes, quality measures, infection prevention, falls, wounds, rehospitalizations, and other key indicators.
- Ensure compliance with CMS, state, federal, and Veterans Home regulations and standards.
- Lead preparation for surveys and regulatory inspections and ensure timely development and implementation of corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with the Administrator, Medical Director, interdisciplinary team, residents, and families to address clinical and operational needs.
- Review resident assessments, care plans, physician orders, and changes in condition to ensure appropriate clinical interventions.
- Oversee medication management, infection control, wound care, documentation, and other nursing services.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous quality improvement.
- Investigate and appropriately respond to resident concerns, incidents, grievances, and clinical events.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and ensure adherence to facility policies and procedures.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
- Serve as a visible nursing leader and advocate for Veterans and the nursing team.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Previous Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, or senior nursing leadership experience in a skilled nursing facility required.
- Strong knowledge of long-term care clinical practices, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
- Experience leading and developing interdisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of CMS and state skilled nursing regulations.
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Commitment to providing exceptional care and service to Veterans.

Experience working with Veterans, medically complex residents, geriatric populations, or long-term care residents is highly valued.
