Director of Nursing – Skilled Nursing Facility

A skilled nursing facility in Bossier City, Louisiana is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead nursing operations and oversee the clinical performance of the facility.

This is a key leadership role for a strong nursing professional who understands skilled nursing, regulatory compliance, staff development, survey readiness, and the day-to-day demands of leading a nursing department in a long-term care environment.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader who can build a strong clinical team, create accountability, and maintain high standards for resident care.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all nursing department operations
• Manage and support nursing leadership and clinical staff
• Recruit, train, coach, and retain nursing team members
• Maintain appropriate staffing levels and nursing coverage
• Oversee resident assessments, care plans, documentation, and clinical services
• Monitor quality measures, incidents, rehospitalizations, infections, and changes in resident condition
• Maintain survey readiness and support compliance with federal and state requirements
• Develop and implement plans of correction and quality improvement initiatives
• Partner closely with the Administrator and interdisciplinary leadership team
• Monitor nursing documentation and clinical practices for accuracy and compliance
• Oversee infection prevention and control practices
• Address resident and family concerns professionally and promptly
• Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across the nursing department
• Support staff education, competency, and ongoing clinical development
• Collaborate with physicians, rehabilitation, pharmacy, and other care partners

Qualifications

• Active Louisiana Registered Nurse license in good standing
• Previous Director of Nursing experience in a skilled nursing facility strongly preferred
• Strong skilled nursing and long-term care background
• Thorough understanding of survey readiness and regulatory compliance
• Strong knowledge of clinical documentation, care planning, staffing, infection prevention, and quality measures
• Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain nursing teams
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple clinical and operational priorities in a fast-paced environment
