Valley View Health and Rehabilitation is seeking an accomplished and experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to provide clinical and operational leadership for our nursing department.
The Director of Nursing is a key member of the facility’s leadership team and is responsible for establishing and maintaining high standards of nursing practice, regulatory compliance, resident safety, and quality outcomes.
This position requires a strong clinical leader who can effectively develop nursing teams, establish accountability, evaluate performance, and collaborate across departments while maintaining a consistent focus on exceptional resident care.
Position Overview
The Director of Nursing provides overall leadership and direction for Nursing Services and is responsible for the organization, development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing programs within the facility.
Working closely with the Administrator, Medical Director, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary team, the DON ensures nursing services are delivered in accordance with professional standards, facility policies, and applicable federal and state regulations.
The successful candidate will combine clinical expertise with strong operational leadership, creating an environment where employees are supported, expectations are clear, and residents receive consistent, high-quality care.
Key Leadership Responsibilities
Direct and oversee all aspects of the facility’s nursing services and clinical operations
Establish, implement, and maintain nursing policies, procedures, and standards of practice
Ensure resident care is delivered in accordance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
Maintain readiness for regulatory surveys and ensure appropriate follow-up on identified areas of concern
Monitor clinical outcomes, resident status changes, documentation, and standards of nursing practice
Provide leadership and oversight to nursing management, licensed nurses, CNAs, and other nursing personnel
Participate in recruitment, orientation, training, development, and retention of nursing staff
Establish clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, evaluation, and accountability
Monitor staffing and nursing department operations to support appropriate resident care and continuity of services
Lead and participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives
Review clinical trends, incidents, outcomes, and performance data to identify opportunities for improvement
Collaborate with physicians, the Medical Director, department leaders, and interdisciplinary team members
Promote effective communication with residents and families and ensure concerns are addressed appropriately and compassionately
Support infection prevention, risk management, resident safety, and clinical compliance initiatives
Foster a professional nursing culture centered on accountability, teamwork, resident dignity, and quality
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing required
Minimum of five years of nursing experience in a long-term care setting
Previous experience as a Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing strongly preferred
Demonstrated nursing leadership and staff-management experience
Strong working knowledge of federal and state regulations governing skilled nursing and long-term care facilities
Knowledge of clinical quality, regulatory compliance, survey readiness, and performance improvement
Strong organizational, critical-thinking, and decision-making abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to lead effectively in a complex and fast-paced healthcare environment
