Director of Library Services and Dean of the Academic Student Services Center Full-Time | 12-Month Administrative Appointment Allen University, a private Historically Black University (HBCU) located in Columbia, South Carolina, invites applications for the position of Director of Library Services and Dean of the Academic Student Services Center. Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director/Dean provides visionary leadership for the University's library system and the Academic Student Services Center. The successful candidate will lead institutional efforts that promote academic excellence, student persistence, graduation, information literacy, research support, academic technology integration, and student success. The position is responsible for developing an innovative learning environment that combines traditional library services with modern academic support resources, including tutoring, writing assistance, supplemental instruction, academic coaching, learning technologies, disability support coordination, testing services, research assistance, and student success programming. Minimum Qualifications • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS) from an ALA-accredited institution (required) • Doctorate (earned or ABD) in Higher Education, Library Science, Educational Leadership, Information Science, or related field preferred • Three to five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in academic libraries and student success, academic support, or higher education administration • Experience supervising professional and support staff • Demonstrated experience with strategic planning, assessment, accreditation, and program development • Knowledge of integrated library systems, digital repositories, library instruction, and emerging educational technologies Essential Responsibilities • Provide strategic leadership for all library operations. • Develop innovative library services supporting teaching, learning, scholarship, and research. • Oversee collection development, acquisitions, archives, cataloging, circulation, electronic resources, and digital collections. • Ensure compliance with copyright laws, licensing agreements, and information resource policies. • Expand digital scholarship and open educational resources (OER). • Strengthen online and distance education library services. • Collaborate on accreditation initiatives, including SACSCOC compliance. • Ability to teach the one credit hour course UNV 101 Physical Requirements This position requires routine office work, occasional evening or weekend activities, the ability to move throughout campus facilities, and the ability to lift library materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
