Summary/Objective

The Director of the Laboratory is responsible for directing, establishing and planning the overall policies and goals for Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas Laboratory Services Department. This position must provide support and work closely with the hospital staff, department directors and physicians to ensure the highest standards of quality and services are maintained. The Director of the Laboratory must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

  • Participates in strategic planning for laboratory services, identifying opportunities for process improvement, service expansion, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Maintains laboratory services in accordance with the standards established by Baptist Hospital of Southeast Texas, as well as all applicable federal, state, local, and accrediting bodies.
  • In collaboration with Hospital Administration and the Medical Director of Pathology, plans, directs, and supervises all technical aspects of the Laboratory, including services, programs, and educational initiatives. Ensures compliance with hospital standards and all regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Promotes integration and coordination of Laboratory functions with other hospital departments by developing and implementing collaborative standards, participating in interdepartmental quality assessment and improvement activities, and establishing effective communication mechanisms within the department.
  • Applies specialized laboratory knowledge to departmental operations, staff evaluation, and personnel direction.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills, including problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict management, while maintaining a team-focused approach that prioritizes collective goals. Actively participates in department committees and group meetings to support continuous improvement of services.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in related field

4 years of related experience as a medical technologist and at least 5 years of supervisory experience.

Required License/Certifications

Medical Technologist with MT (ASCP) certification or a combination of equivalent training and experience. Completion of approved training program for Medical Technologist with MT (ASCP) certification
