Description

Director of Human Resources

San Francisco, CA  - Onsite
$212,000 to $267,000 Base Salary + Equity
Full-Time - High-Growth AI Company

Some HR leadership roles are about managing what's already in place. This one is about building what comes next.

Lumova Talent is partnering with a fast-growing, venture-backed AI company looking for an experienced Director of People Operations & HR to lead its U.S. people operations.

The company has an established product, a growing customer base, and ambitious expansion plans. As its San Francisco team continues to grow, it needs a leader who can build the HR infrastructure, strengthen the employee experience, and help shape the organization's next chapter.

You'll work closely with the executive team and have the autonomy to develop the systems, processes, and programs that support a growing company.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys being both a strategic partner and a hands-on leader.

What You'll Do

As the company's first dedicated U.S. People Operations leader, you'll take ownership of the employee experience while helping establish the foundation for continued growth.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Build and scale People Operations: Develop HR policies, systems, and processes that support a growing organization.
  • Partner with executive leadership: Advise leaders on organizational planning, employee relations, performance management, and retention.
  • Own the employee lifecycle: Create effective onboarding programs, improve employee experiences, and establish consistent people practices.
  • Lead HR compliance: Manage U.S. HR operations, including employment policies, benefits coordination, and California and federal employment law compliance.
  • Shape workplace culture: Help establish a collaborative office environment through employee engagement initiatives, company events, and workplace programs.
  • Oversee workplace operations: Manage facilities, vendor relationships, and office operations as the San Francisco team expands.
  • Support a scaling technology organization: Develop people practices that can adapt as the company grows, teams evolve, and new technologies reshape how employees work.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced HR leader who understands the challenges of scaling a technology company and enjoys creating structure in environments where processes are still evolving.

You'll be a strong fit if you bring:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in HR, People Operations, or HR Business Partner roles.
  • Recent experience in a high-growth technology startup, ideally Series A through Series C.
  • A track record of building or scaling HR infrastructure, ideally while helping an organization grow from approximately 50 to 200 employees.
  • Strong knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance.
  • Experience partnering directly with executives while remaining actively involved in day-to-day HR operations.
  • Familiarity with modern HR technology platforms such as Rippling, Lattice, Greenhouse, Ashby, or similar systems.
  • A bachelor's degree.

Beyond your experience, we're looking for someone who is resourceful, comfortable with ambiguity, and confident making decisions without relying on an established HR department.

You understand how to balance the needs of employees with the goals of the business, and you know when to build a new process versus keeping things simple.
