Summary

Reporting to the VP Human Resources, the Director of Human Resources provides strategic and operational leadership for all core Human Resources and HR supported administrative functions including recruiting, payroll, benefits, training, and organizational development. This role leverages AI supported reporting, insights, and workforce analytics to enhance the team member experience. 

The Director ensures alignment between HR operations and organizational goals while maintaining legal compliance, service excellence, and a high performing, team member focused culture. Serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, the Director leads the Human Resources and Training team in delivering consistent member driven, and technology enabled HR practices across the Credit Union.

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities 

HR Leadership & Strategy

• Provides strategic direction and operational leadership for Human Resources and Training functions, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, regulatory requirements, and long term business objectives.

• Acts as a coach to executive leadership on workforce strategy, organizational effectiveness, leadership development training, and team member experience.

• Promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration and member focus.

• Leads by example and ensures cohesive collaboration among department team members.

Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning

• Provides oversight of exceptional experiences in recruitment, selection, placement, and onboarding, resulting in a successful long-term tenure for the Team Member.  

• Reviews hiring metrics, applicant flow, turnover trends, and workforce data to support proactive workforce planning.

• Leads interview process for management level team members.

Organizational Development & Team Member Experience

• Oversees organizational development tasks, including annual performance appraisal processes, Predictive Index assessment tool, and job descriptions.

• Partners with leaders to assess organizational needs and design scalable solutions that align talent, structure, processes, and culture.

• Supports leadership development and manager onboarding that enhance organizational effectiveness.

• Develop, administer and analyze Team Member surveys, including Best Places to Work, life cycle surveys and other engagement surveys as needed.

• Conducts exit interviews and analyzes results for month end reporting. Makes recommendations for change where applicable.

Compensation, Benefits & Payroll Oversight

• Provides oversight of payroll and 401(k) operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and appropriate internal controls.

• Oversees the design, administration, legal compliance and renewal of all team member benefits and wellness initiatives.

• Oversees annual benefits open enrollment, working with vendors to ensure competitive quoting and selection process.

Training & Development

• Oversees training and development strategy, programs, and delivery, including onboarding, technical and soft skills training, leadership development, and compliance training.

• Provides strategic guidance and oversight to the Training & Development Manager in assessing training needs, managing curriculum, and leveraging training tools.

Qualifications and Certifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required, Masters’ degree preferred

• 7 - 10 years of experience in HR, with at least 3 years in a leadership role 

• PHR or SPHR certification is desired

• Experience with UKG or other HRIS systems

• Strong MS Office skills

• In-depth knowledge and experience with employment labor law, regulations and best practices 

• Demonstrated success in developing and implementing HR policies and programs that align with organizational strategy

• Working knowledge of benefits administration, payroll, 401(k), talent acquisition and training and development

• Strong leadership and team management skills

• Demonstrated above average ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior leaders while demonstrating strong business acumen skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication, interpersonal and detail orientation skills

• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism

• Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment
