Director of Housing

Schedule: Full-Time | Evening & Weekend Oversight Required

Location: Columbus, OH

Ability Matters is seeking an experienced leader to oversee the quality, consistency, and growth of our residential services.

As the Director of Housing, you will provide strategic leadership across our housing programs, supporting high-quality, person-centered services while developing strong teams and meaningful outcomes for the individuals we support. You'll work closely with Housing leadership, frontline teams, families, and community partners to ensure our homes provide a safe and inclusive environment where individuals can thrive. 

This role requires a leader who can balance people, operations, compliance, and accountability while maintaining a clear focus on the individuals and families we serve.

Evening and weekend oversight is an essential part of this role. The Director of Housing participates in on-call responsibilities and provides leadership support outside of traditional business hours to ensure continuity, safety, and timely response to housing needs.

What You’ll Do

Lead Housing Operations

Provide oversight of residential programs, ensuring daily operations, schedules, staffing, and services are consistent and aligned with person-centered expectations.

Ensure Compliance & Quality Standards

Maintain regulatory compliance with DODD and Ability Matters standards. Oversee documentation, billing practices, training, and quality processes to protect the health, safety, rights, and dignity of individuals. Review parent and guardian feedback, documentation, incident reports, and program performance to identify concerns and implement effective solutions.

Develop High-Performing Teams

Lead hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and professional development while building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and inclusion. Coordinate and deliver ongoing performance improvement training to strengthen staff competence in safety, dignity, independence, and person-centered support.

Champion Individual Outcomes

Lead OISP meetings, ensuring individual goals and voices are reflected in services. Monitor programming and daily support to promote independence, inclusion, and meaningful outcomes.

Partner with Families & Service Teams

Foster strong communication with families, guardians, and SSAs to ensure transparency, trust, and person-centered advocacy.

Oversee Financial Stewardship

Provide oversight of financial processes and ensure resources are managed responsibly and in accordance with individual needs.

Provide Leadership When It Matters Most

Participate in on-call rotation and provide evening and weekend oversight as needed to maintain continuity and safety across programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Special Education, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience.

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.

  • Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, take initiative, and follow through.

  • Knowledge of healthcare, Medicaid, or human services operations preferred

  • Valid Ohio driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Successful completion of required background check and drug screening.

  • Ability to travel between assigned homes.

  • Evening, weekend, and on-call availability required.
