PURPOSE
We are seeking a Director of Health & Safety for our client to provide enterprise leadership for safety strategy, programs, and compliance across all operating sites. This role will drive continuous improvement, protect employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and strengthen a proactive safety culture through strong field engagement and operational partnerships.
The Director of Health & Safety will report to the VP of Operations.
Travel to operating locations is expected approximately 50% of the time.
 
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for enterprise Health & Safety programs, standards, and initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve safety systems using data-driven insights and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, DOT, ATF, and other applicable regulatory requirements; lead audits and corrective action efforts.
  • Partner with operations, leadership teams, and employees to promote a proactive safety culture and manage organizational risk.
  • Lead complex incident investigations, root cause analyses, emergency response support, and crisis management activities.
  • Oversee standardized safety training programs, including onboarding, task-based, refresher, and regulatory training.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, provide executive-level safety reporting, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Mining Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 10–15 years of experience in safety, compliance, operations, or auditing roles.
  • Mining industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of safety management systems and federal/state regulations.
  • Proven ability to influence leaders at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills with strong integrity and ethical leadership.
