    DOVER PUBLIC SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF HEALTH EDUCATION, PHYSICAL EDUCATION and ATHLETICS K-12 QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Minimum educational training of a Masters Degree in Education
    2. Certification - Posses a valid New Jersey Supervisor/Principal certificate and a valid N.J. teaching certificate.
    3. Minimum 5 years successful experience in coaching at the secondary level FUNCTION: The function of this Department Head is to perform as the educational leader in administering and supervising the instructional program in physical education and health, as well as in interscholastic and intramural athletics grades K-12. The Director in charge of Physical Education, Health Education, Driver Education and Athletics will work closely with all Principals to effect departmental standards of accomplishment within the school system as a whole and to develop articulation throughout the district. The Director is responsible to the High School Principal and shall work cooperatively with all other principals in the District. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    4. HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION - INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM a. Supervise and evaluate teachers assigned to the department and keep personnel records as necessary b. Demonstrate initiative and leadership in the improvement of instructional program c. Work with each principal in developing, implementing and evaluating the program d. Be responsible for updating and writing courses of study and curriculum e. Hold meetings and conferences with teachers in the department regarding courses of study, methods of instruction and matters affecting the progress of pupils f. Assist teachers to make full use of all materials and equipment g. Participate in the screening and selection of all new personnel in the assigned area h. Assist the principals in developing the teaching schedule i. Develop and implement plans for seminars, in-service education programs, and committee work j. Be responsible for preparing budget requests and purchase orders for the department k. Prepare and maintain inventories of all books, equipment and supplies for the department l. Assist in projecting future needs in the area of facilities, equipment and staffing m. Participate in professional meetings, as needed to strengthen the program
    5. The School's Athletic Program a. Develop all interscholastic sporting schedules b. Develop supply orders and equipment orders for the annual athletic budget c. Maintain an efficient and effective inventory system for all equipment d. Recruit and schedule qualified officials for all games e. Coordinate all transportation for athletic activities f. Arrange physical examinations and permission slips for all students participating in sports g. Ensure that athletic coaches enforce training rules h. Ensure cleanliness and safety of all playing fields and courts i. Supervise ticket sales and transfer of funds to the Business Office j. Implement Board Policy for student awards and recognition k. Represent the district in athletic conference meetings, especially NJSIAA meetings and other professional gatherings l. Participate in the selection process of coaches and submit to the principal an annual written evaluation of the performance of each coach m. Verify accuracy of all student insurance lists and required state eligibility list n. Promote and encourage the Iron Hills Code of Ethics for spectators o. Promptly report all athletic injuries per established district procedure p. Implement the rules of Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 and Title VI of the New Jersey Administrative Code which provide for equal opportunity for members of both sexes in teams, equipment, facilities, supplies, travel, compensation of coaches and scheduling. q. Recommend the establishment of additional teams as student interest warrants r. Work cooperatively with all parent booster organizations REMUNERATION: Per negotiated agreement EFFECTIVE DATE: January 1, 1991
