Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Medicine is seeking a Director of Flow Cytometry and Scientific Operations to lead flow cytometry and cell sorting operations while overseeing key scientific and operational initiatives across the institutes.

This hands-on leadership role will oversee researcher training, perform and support cell sorting, troubleshoot experimental protocols and instrumentation, develop assays and standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintain equipment, collaborate with vendors, and evaluate emerging technologies to enhance research capabilities.

The Director will also partner with institute leadership and laboratory managers to optimize research operations and shared resources. Responsibilities include overseeing laboratory and equipment installations, data storage solutions, freezer and equipment monitoring systems, policy and procedure development, and other strategic operational initiatives that support the institutes' continued growth.

Annual range: $108,900.00-$241,500.00

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7-10 years of experience in flow cytometry, cell sorting, or related scientific research operations.
  • Extensive experience in flow cytometry and cell sorting, including operation, maintenance, quality control, troubleshooting, and user training on flow cytometry analyzers and cell sorters, with the ability to provide technical guidance and support to researchers.
  • Experience developing and implementing multicolor flow cytometry assays and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with researchers, laboratory staff, vendors, and other university personnel.
  • Experience working directly with principal investigators and research laboratories.
  • Experience coordinating instrument maintenance, repairs, and service.
  • Experience working with scientific vendors and assisting with equipment purchases and service agreements.
  • Ability to work independently, organize multiple projects, and follow through on assignments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience evaluating and implementing new scientific technologies.
  • Experience with clinical, translational, or pharmaceutical research.
  • Experience with spectral flow cytometry and high-dimensional flow cytometry.
  • Experience managing a flow cytometry core or shared research facility.
  • Experience with GMP, CLIA, BSL-2+, or FDA-regulated laboratory environments.
