Plantation Bay Golf & Country Club is seeking an experienced, energetic, and service-oriented Director of Fitness to lead our fitness, wellness, spa, and pool operations.
This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for creating an exceptional experience for our members and guests while overseeing staff, programs, facilities, equipment, and daily operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fitness and wellness management, excellent leadership and organizational skills, and a passion for providing outstanding member service.
The Director will oversee fitness attendants, personal trainers, group fitness instructors, spa service providers, and pool operations while developing engaging fitness and wellness programming throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Management
- Recruit, select, train, schedule, supervise, and support personnel assigned to the fitness, spa, and pool operations.
- Provide direct supervision and ongoing guidance to:
- Fitness Attendants
- Personal Trainers
- Group Fitness Instructors
- Massage Therapists
- Facial and Skincare Service Providers
- Nail Service Providers
- Monitor staff performance and ensure consistent standards of professionalism, service, safety, and member care.
- Prepare weekly staff schedules while maintaining established departmental labor and budget goals.
- Maintain accurate payroll and scheduling records.
- Attend management and staff meetings as required.
Fitness & Wellness Programming
- Plan, organize, and oversee group fitness and wellness programs.
- Develop and implement year-round fitness, health, and wellness activities and special events.
- Conduct physical and fitness assessments for members and guests as appropriate.
- Provide personal training services as needed, approximately 10% to 20% of the position's responsibilities.
- Maintain an engaging calendar of fitness and health activities.
- Assist with the creation and coordination of promotional materials, including flyers, posters, newsletters, and photos.
- Identify opportunities to expand participation in fitness, wellness, spa, and recreational programs.
Member & Guest Experience
- Provide courteous, professional, and attentive service to all members and guests.
- Promote a welcoming, positive, and service-focused environment.
- Build relationships with members and encourage participation in fitness, wellness, spa, and recreational programs.
- Address member questions or concerns professionally and promptly.
- Enforce Club and facility rules, including policies governing proper use of equipment, dress codes, safety, and facility etiquette.
Facility & Operational Management
- Ensure fitness, spa, pool, and related facilities and equipment are clean, properly maintained, safe, and ready for member use.
- Conduct daily inspections of facilities and equipment.
- Coordinate service and maintenance needs and report facility or grounds concerns to appropriate management.
- Assist with the development and management of departmental budgets and take appropriate action to maintain budgetary goals.
- Promote available programs, services, and membership opportunities to members and guests.
- Work collaboratively with other department leaders to ensure fitness, tennis, bocce, pool, spa, and other recreational operations provide a seamless member experience.
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will have:
- 3 to 5 years of experience in fitness, wellness, spa, recreation, or health club management.
- Previous supervisory or management experience.
- Fitness and/or Personal Training certification strongly preferred.
- Experience developing and implementing fitness and wellness programs.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and staff-management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A professional appearance and demeanor.
- A positive, courteous, and member-focused approach to service.
- Experience with Jonas or similar club-management software is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to learn proprietary Club software and systems.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on Club operations, programming, special events, and member needs.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, lift, and grasp as necessary.
- Safely demonstrate or participate in fitness-related activities when appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with members, guests, employees, and management.
- Visually inspect facilities and equipment and identify potential safety or maintenance concerns.
