    Director of Finance

    Overview

    We are partnering with a well-established Property & Casualty insurance organization seeking a Director of Finance to join its leadership team. This role will serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership while maintaining hands-on ownership of financial reporting, statutory accounting, forecasting, and process improvement initiatives.

    The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in P&C insurance accounting, experience leading finance teams, and the ability to provide meaningful financial insights that support business decisions and operational performance.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements on both a GAAP and Statutory basis
    • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of journal entries, supporting schedules, disclosures, and financial reporting packages
    • Lead the quarterly and year-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met and controls are maintained
    • Analyze financial results and provide meaningful commentary on underwriting performance, profitability, and key business drivers
    • Develop and enhance management reporting packages for executive leadership
    • Oversee forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning activities while providing transparency around key assumptions and projections
    • Maintain and strengthen balance sheet reconciliation processes and financial controls
    • Evaluate accounting implications of strategic initiatives, business changes, and special projects
    • Monitor changes to statutory reporting requirements, accounting standards, and industry trends
    • Partner with operational, underwriting, actuarial, and executive leadership teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making
    • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and reporting enhancements across the finance function
    • Lead, develop, mentor, and coach a team of accounting and finance professionals
    • Provide technical accounting guidance and support to the broader finance organization
    • Support audit activities and maintain strong relationships with external auditors and regulators

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

    • CPA required

    • Experience with Yellow Book reporting and statutory annual statement preparation

    • 10+ years of accounting and finance experience within the Property & Casualty insurance industry

    • 5+ years of leadership or management experience

    • Strong understanding of GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP)

    • Experience overseeing financial reporting, close processes, and regulatory reporting requirements

    • Proven ability to lead teams and influence stakeholders across an organization

    • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills

    • Experience with financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and management reporting

    • Proficiency with ERP and general ledger systems

    • Advanced Excel skills; experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau is a plus

    Preferred Background

    • Director, Assistant Controller, Controller, Senior Manager of Financial Reporting, or Accounting Manager backgrounds
    • Experience within a P&C insurance carrier
    • Exposure to statutory reporting, annual statements, and regulatory filings
    • Demonstrated success improving processes, controls, and reporting capabilities
