Director of FinancePosition OverviewThe Director of Finance provides financial insight and analytical support to help business leaders understand performance, evaluate opportunities, and make informed decisions. This position serves as a key resource for financial reporting, forecasting, business analysis, and operational decision support.The role works closely with Finance and cross-functional leaders to improve visibility into business results, identify areas for improvement, and support effective financial management. The Director will also contribute to strengthening financial processes, reporting capabilities, and analytical tools.Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Analysis & Decision SupportProvide ongoing analysis of financial and operating results to identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring attention.Translate financial information into clear, actionable insights for business leaders.Develop financial analyses and models for new initiatives, investments, pricing decisions, and other business opportunities.Evaluate the financial impact of proposed business decisions and provide supporting analysis.Track key business metrics and develop reporting that improves visibility into performance.Partner with functional leaders to understand business drivers and financial results.Management ReportingPrepare recurring financial reports and management summaries.Analyze monthly results and explain significant changes from expectations and prior periods.Assist with monthly close reporting and ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and meaningful.Develop presentations and materials used to communicate financial performance to leadership.Identify reporting gaps and recommend improvements to increase the usefulness and efficiency of financial reporting.Forecasting & PlanningCoordinate financial forecasting activities and maintain updated outlooks throughout the year.Support development of annual operating plans and financial budgets.Work with department leaders to develop and evaluate financial assumptions.Monitor spending and operating results against established plans.Maintain financial models used for forecasting, planning, and scenario analysis.Assist leadership in evaluating potential changes to business plans based on financial results and market conditions.Operational FinanceAnalyze product and operating costs, gross margins, inventory, and working capital.Evaluate pricing and margin trends and identify potential areas for improvement.Support initiatives designed to improve cost efficiency and financial performance.Review capital expenditure requests and provide financial analysis to support investment decisions.Monitor key operational financial indicators and communicate significant trends to leadership.Finance Process & SystemsIdentify opportunities to simplify, automate, and improve financial processes.Enhance financial reporting tools, dashboards, and analytical capabilities.Support the effective use of ERP and financial reporting systems.Assist with maintaining appropriate financial controls and data integrity.Participate in finance-related projects, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.Collaboration & LeadershipServe as a financial resource to leaders and managers across the organization.Build strong working relationships with Finance and other functional teams.Communicate financial concepts effectively to both financial and non-financial audiences.Provide guidance and support to other members of the Finance team.Contribute to a collaborative, accountable, and continuous-improvement-oriented finance function.Support the Director of Finance with special projects and other strategic initiatives as needed.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.8+ years of progressive experience in finance, FP&A, accounting, or a related discipline.Demonstrated experience with financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and management reporting.Strong understanding of income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, working capital, and financial performance metrics.Experience analyzing costs, margins, inventory, and operating expenses.Strong financial modeling and Excel skills.Experience with ERP and financial reporting systems; experience with NetSuite or similar platforms preferred.Experience with Power BI or another business intelligence/reporting platform preferred.Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.Core CompetenciesAnalytical and detail-oriented approach to financial information.Strong business judgment and problem-solving ability.Ability to identify financial trends and communicate their implications.Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.Ability to establish effective relationships across functions and levels of an organization.Comfortable working with both detailed financial data and broader business objectives.Self-directed, organized, and adaptable.Commitment to accuracy, process improvement, and high-quality financial support.Preferred ExperienceAdvanced degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.CPA certification.Experience within manufacturing, consumer products, distribution, or another operationally complex environment.Experience supporting multiple business units or entities.Experience in a private equity-backed or growth-oriented organization.
