Position Summary
Our client is seeking a Finance Director to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the organization's financial operations, accounting functions, budgeting processes, financial reporting, and compliance activities. This role serves as the senior financial leader responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial records, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting executive decision-making, and driving sound fiscal management practices.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and results-oriented finance leader with deep expertise in accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and internal controls. This individual will play a key role in guiding financial strategy, managing critical financial processes, and supporting long-term organizational objectives.
What You'll Do
- Provide leadership and oversight of all accounting, finance, treasury, budgeting, and financial reporting functions.
- Manage and develop finance team members through coaching, performance management, training, and ongoing professional development.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local financial regulations, accounting standards, and reporting requirements.
- Oversee general ledger activities, financial statements, account reconciliations, and financial controls.
- Review and approve payroll, accounts payable, financial transactions, and related fiscal activities.
- Monitor and maintain accurate financial records, including revenues, expenditures, assets, liabilities, and fund balances.
- Lead the preparation, development, and administration of annual operating and capital budgets.
- Analyze financial performance and provide forecasting, budgeting, and strategic financial recommendations to executive leadership.
- Prepare financial analyses, reports, and presentations to support organizational decision-making.
- Direct annual audit activities and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
- Oversee the preparation of annual financial statements, comprehensive financial reports, and supporting audit documentation.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial reporting requirements.
- Manage cash flow, investment activities, debt-related processes, and other treasury functions.
- Maintain records of organizational assets, contracts, assessments, and financial obligations.
- Evaluate and enhance financial systems, accounting procedures, and internal controls.
- Research and resolve complex accounting, compliance, and financial reporting issues.
- Provide guidance on financial policies, fiscal planning, and risk management initiatives.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and operational departments to support organizational goals and long-term financial sustainability.
- Support economic development, funding initiatives, capital planning, and other strategic financial projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
- Experience overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, audits, treasury management, and accounting operations.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards and governmental accounting practices preferred.
- Experience preparing annual financial statements, audit reports, and comprehensive financial reports.
- Strong understanding of internal controls, financial compliance, and risk management principles.
- Experience managing and developing accounting and finance teams.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial forecasting, budget development, and strategic financial planning.
- Experience with financial systems, ERP platforms, and accounting software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable business recommendations.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
- Experience within governmental, municipal, public sector, or highly regulated environments preferred.
- Knowledge of debt management, investment management, tax-related matters, and economic development financing tools is a plus.
